Fitter Welder Job Description
*Experience: REQUIRED 4+ years of Fitting experience in custom fabrication in carbon steel/mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. *
*Current welding tickets are an asset.*
The Fitter role is responsible for fitting carbon steel/mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum; cutting and forming metals to spec; reading shop-issued drawings to perform fabrication requirements; operating machinery, overhead cranes, hand tools, lift equipment (forklifts, telehandlers, scissor lifts, etc.); and other duties. Must have experience in structural steel, misc. metals, and custom fabrication.
Manufacturing duties
- Extremely knowledgeable in custom steel fabrication in carbon steel/mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum (fitting, cutting, forming, MIG and TIG welding, etc.).
- Perform fitting of custom steel fabrication projects - laying out, cutting and forming metals to specification.
- Read shop-issued drawings to perform fitting requirements.
- Operate machinery, overhead cranes, hand tools, and lift equipment (forklifts, telehandlers, scissor lifts, etc.).
- Review finished assemblies and parts to ensure quality and accuracy against drawings and bill of materials.
- Meet deadlines to ensure company production goals are met.
- Keep your work area clean and organized, and put away materials and equipment after use.
- Report fabrication issues and assist in resolutions as required.
- Report equipment and/or material issues.
Required Skills
- Fitting knowledge.
- Capable of working on your own and with a team.
- Strong communication skills.
- Demonstrated mechanical ability.
- Shop safety knowledge.
- Capable and knowledgeable in operating machinery, overhead cranes, hand tools, and lift equipment (forklifts, telehandlers, scissor lifts, etc.).
- Knowledge of both metric and imperial unit systems.
- Blueprint reading and comprehension for fitting.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals as required on the blueprints and drawing notes.
Safety
- Perform daily equipment checks and review any issues with your supervisor.
- Work safely and responsibly, adhering to company safety procedures and rules.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Report all safety risks, issues, and incidents to your supervisor.
- Daily equipment inspections.
Education
Completion of a metal fabrication fitting program is a strong asset.
Language Ability
Communicates effectively in English (verbal and written).
Environment
Shop and in the field.
Type of Employment
Full-time, permanent, Monday to Friday, day shift.
Hours
44 hours per week. Occasional overtime.
