Position Summary
Reporting to the Quality Assurance/Control Manager, the Quality Inspector is responsible for verifying that incoming materials, manufactured components, and finished products meet Hevvy's quality standards and customer specifications.
Working closely with Operations, Engineering, Purchasing, Shipping, and Suppliers, you'll perform inspections, investigate quality concerns, maintain inspection records, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen our products and processes.
For experienced candidates, the Quality Inspector will also provide technical leadership, support supplier quality initiatives, and participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Verification
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of castings, machined components, fabricated weldments, and assembled pumps.
- Verify incoming materials against purchase orders, packing slips, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Perform dimensional inspections using precision measuring equipment.
- Confirm products meet customer requirements, engineering drawings, tolerances, and quality standards.
- Identify non-conforming materials and ensure appropriate containment actions are taken.
Quality Documentation
- Record inspection results accurately using inspection reports and ERP systems.
- Maintain organized electronic and hard-copy quality documentation.
- Create and process Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Support traceability and documentation required under ISO 9001:2015.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing, Shipping, and Service to resolve quality issues.
- Communicate quality concerns clearly with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Support production by providing timely inspections that minimize manufacturing delays.
- Participate in production meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
Continuous Improvement
- Collect and analyze quality data to identify trends and recurring issues.
- Participate in root cause investigations and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
- Recommend improvements to inspection methods, manufacturing processes, and documentation.
- Assist with supplier quality improvements and corrective actions.
Equipment & Compliance
- Coordinate calibration of inspection equipment with external calibration providers.
- Maintain inspection tools and ensure calibration records remain current.
- Support internal and external quality audits.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards and company procedures.
Health & Safety
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
- Wear required PPE and maintain a safe work environment.
- Participate in health and safety training and proactively identify workplace hazards.
Qualifications
Junior Quality Inspector
- 1+ year experience in Mechanical quality inspection
- Experience in manufacturing, machining, fabrication, welding, or industrial production.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment such as: Vernier calipers and Micrometers
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and dimensional tolerances.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office and computer systems for documentation.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Eagerness to learn and develop within a manufacturing quality environment.
Quality Inspector
In addition to the above:
- 5+ years of quality inspection experience in machining, manufacturing, fabrication, or heavy industrial equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment such as: Vernier calipers, Micrometers, Height gauges, Dial indicators, Bore gauges
- Advanced knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawings.
- Experience interpreting machining tolerances and weld inspection requirements.
- Experience investigating non-conformances and performing root cause analysis.
- Experience supporting ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Experience working directly with suppliers and customers to resolve quality issues.
Assets
- Knowledge of slurry pumps or rotating equipment.
- Machining or CNC manufacturing experience.
- Welding inspection experience.
- Forklift and overhead crane certification.
- Mechanical Engineering Technology or Manufacturing Technology diploma.
- ASQ, CQI, CQT, or other quality-related certifications.
- ERP experience (Syteline preferred).
