Overview
The Safety & Compliance Manager is responsible for promoting and maintaining a culture of safety and regulatory compliance throughout the organization. This role oversees driver management programs, maintains accurate driver records, conducts driver orientations, performs electronic log (ELD/eLog) audits, and ensures compliance with applicable transportation regulations and company policies. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in transportation safety management.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable transportation, occupational health and safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and enforce company safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Conduct safety investigations and assist with incident and accident reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Track and report safety performance metrics and recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate and participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and audits.
Driver Management
- Manage driver qualification and compliance programs.
- Monitor driver performance, safety scores, violations, and training requirements.
- Provide coaching and corrective action when required to address safety concerns or compliance issues.
- Support recruitment efforts by reviewing driver qualifications and compliance documentation.
- Maintain positive working relationships with drivers and operations personnel.
Driver File Ownership & Record Keeping
- Maintain complete and accurate driver qualification files.
- Ensure all driver records are current, including licenses, abstracts, medical certificates, training records, and regulatory documentation.
- Track expiration dates and proactively coordinate renewals and updates.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical filing systems in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare documentation for internal and external audits.
Driver Orientation & Training
- Coordinate and conduct new driver orientation programs.
- Educate drivers on company policies, safety expectations, regulatory requirements, and operational procedures.
- Ensure all required onboarding documentation is completed and filed.
- Identify training needs and coordinate refresher or corrective training as required.
ELD / eLog Monitoring
- Review and audit driver electronic logs (ELDs/eLogs) for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Identify hours-of-service violations and work with drivers and management to implement corrective actions.
- Monitor logbook trends and provide coaching to improve compliance.
- Generate and maintain compliance reports as required.
Qualifications Required
- Minimum 4 years of experience in transportation safety, fleet compliance, or a related role.
- CDS or CSS Designations is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of transportation regulations, driver qualification requirements, and hours-of-service compliance.
- Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail.Preferred
- Experience with ISAAC Instruments ELD platform.
- Knowledge of provincial and federal transportation regulations.
- Experience conducting safety investigations and driver coaching.
- Occupational Health & Safety or Transportation Safety certifications.
- Commercial transportation industry experience.

Reports to: General Manager
Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based with periodic visits to terminals, yards, and operational sites as required.
Pay: $62,000.00-$68,000.00 per year
