POSITION SUMMARY
The Digital Media Systems Engineer is responsible for the administration, reliability, maintenance, and ongoing optimization of Rogers Arena’s IPTV, CATV, digital signage, menu boards, exterior signage, and venue display systems. This role oversees critical media distribution infrastructure supporting live events, broadcast operations, partner activations, and fan-facing communications throughout the arena.
Responsibilities include signal distribution, endpoint management, system diagnostics, content deployment, infrastructure maintenance, and coordination between broadcast, IT, and digital signage platforms. This position plays a key role in ensuring reliable operation and seamless content delivery across venue display systems during live events and daily arena operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage day-to-day operation of the venue’s digital signage network (TriplePlay), including content scheduling, playlist management, playback verification, system monitoring, and reporting.
- Own and maintain all IPTV and CATV headend systems, ensuring reliable video distribution throughout Rogers Arena and affiliated venues.
- Support event-based content changes and real-time updates for games, concerts, and partner activations.
- Coordinate with Marketing, Partnerships, Game Presentation, Hospitality Technology, and other internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate content deployment across all venue display systems.
- Monitor system health and troubleshoot issues related to playback, signal transport, device connectivity, CMS performance, and network communication.
- Lead installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrades of IPTV, CATV, digital signage, and related media distribution systems.
- Manage integration and signal flow between IPTV, broadcast, control room, and venue display systems.
- Work closely with IT and Production Technology teams to troubleshoot connectivity, optimize workflows, and maintain system reliability.
- Run and distribute proof-of-play and playback verification reports for internal stakeholders and partners.
- Maintain accurate documentation for display inventory, signal flow, wiring, network layouts, and system configurations.
- Maintain and update firmware, device configurations, control interfaces, and system standards.
- Assist with preventative maintenance schedules to ensure reliability of digital signage, IPTV, CATV, and display systems during live events.
- Support LED display vendors during upgrades, maintenance, calibration, and service calls.
- Provide on-site technical support during live events and arena operations as required.
- Participate in equipment inventory management, RMA tracking, lifecycle planning, and spare parts coordination.
- Work collaboratively with Broadcast, Audio, Lighting, and IT teams to support cohesive system operation and content distribution throughout the venue.
- Liaise with internal departments and external vendors to coordinate troubleshooting, maintenance, and capital improvement projects.
- Provide training and technical guidance to staff interfacing with digital signage and IPTV systems.
- Support special projects, technology upgrades, and related capital improvements.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education in Broadcast Technology, Media Systems, Digital Signage, or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience supporting IPTV, digital signage, broadcast, or media systems in a venue, broadcast, or corporate environment.
- Experience with digital signal distribution, IPTV systems, media playback systems, and network-based content delivery.
- Experience with digital signage CMS platforms (TriplePlay, BrightSign, Broadsign, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with CATV systems, RF modulation, video transport, and signal routing is considered an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, signal flow diagrams, and wiring schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose hardware, software, signal, and network-related issues in high-pressure environments.
- Must be comfortable working at heights, including performing maintenance and system checks in catwalks and elevated areas of the arena.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.
