LEAD ACCOUNTANT (CONSTRUCTION- FLOORING INDUSTRY)

We pride ourselves on exceptional craftsmanship and smooth project delivery. We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to oversee our financial operations and help drive our financial strategy.
THE ROLE
The Lead Accountant role is responsible for overseeing full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, key compliance reporting requirements, and other applicable government or regulatory filings.
While the day-to-day bookkeeping functions will largely be managed by the bookkeeping team, this role will provide oversight, review, and support to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and accountability across AR, AP, payroll-related reporting, and month-end processes.
The Lead Accountant will work closely with internal teams to ensure financial information is properly captured, reported, and aligned with company objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Provide clear variance analysis to the President and General Manager.
- Accounts Receivables: Processing and managing of AR.
- Corporate Compliance: Completing reports and submissions for subcontractor compliance WorkSafeBC clearances, T4, T4A and T5018 tracking, CRA submissions.
- Tax Compliance: Prepare and file monthly BC provincial and federal tax compliance returns, including GST, PST, and Employer Health Tax (EHT).
- Cash Flow Management: Manage bank reconciliations and cash flow forecasting to support ongoing project demands and vendor payment cycles.
- Management Oversight: Supervisor Role: Supervise bookkeeping of Accounts Payable (AP), payroll, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation (or near completion) is highly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years explicitly in the construction, trades, or flooring industry within Canada.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Sage Accpac, or construction-specific ERP software Strong mastery of advanced Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables).
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of BC-specific employment standards, WorkSafeBC guidelines, and provincial PST rules regarding real property contracts.
- Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail, highly analytical, and a collaborative communicator who can translate complex data for non-financial project managers.
