Bark Mulch Depot is a fast‑paced, locally owned landscape supply yard serving homeowners and contractors across Calgary and Rocky View County. We’re known for reliable service, accurate loads, and a no‑nonsense approach to getting customers what they need. We’re hiring motivated team members who can thrive in a busy yard/office environment and contribute to our strong customer experience.
The Yard Attendant/Loader is responsible for safely operating loaders and telehandlers, assisting customers with bulk landscape materials, maintaining a clean and organized yard, and supporting daily site operations. This role is hands‑on, outdoors, and central to delivering a smooth, safe customer experience.
Customer Service & Loading
- Greet customers entering the yard and guide them to the correct loading zone
- Load bulk materials (mulch, soil, rock, sand) into customer vehicles using a loader or telehandler
- Confirm product type and quantity before loading to prevent errors
- Provide basic education on safe payloads, tie‑downs, and vehicle limits
- Direct traffic flow to maintain a safe and efficient yard
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate loaders, telehandlers, and yard tools safely and efficiently
- Perform daily equipment checks (fluids, grease points, tire condition, safety features)
- Report mechanical issues immediately to the supervisor
- Keep loading areas level, clean, and free of hazards
Yard Organization & Material Management
- Maintain clean, clearly separated product bins
- Restock materials and manage pile heights for safe loader operation
- Assist with inventory counts and material rotation
- Keep signage visible and accurate
- Manage dust control and general yard housekeeping
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all Bark Mulch Depot safety procedures and PPE requirements
- Monitor customer vehicles for unsafe loading conditions
- Maintain awareness of pedestrians, vehicles, and equipment movement
- Participate in toolbox talks and safety refreshers
- Report incidents or near‑misses immediately
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience operating equipment - a loader, telehandler preferable or equivalent relative equipment (or willingness to learn)
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather
- Strong situational awareness and safety mindset
- Good communication and customer‑service skills
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical tasks
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work weekends during peak season
