The Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre (NFC) is a not-for-profit, culture and community-based organization mandated to serve the needs of urban Indigenous people in the City of Peterborough and surrounding area. The NFC is currently accepting applications for a full-time position as Custodian.

Objective:
Responsible for proactive maintenance and protection of our facilities by ensuring that both the external and internal appearances of the building consistently reflect our commitment to excellence. This includes regularly scheduled deep cleaning, routine upkeep, and detailed tidying of all areas within the premises.
Responsibilities
The Custodian will:
- Ensuring the cleanliness of spaces by taking out trash, washing and sanitizing all toilets, sinks, mirrors, windows, and washing walls, disinfecting door handles and knobs, dusting surfaces as needed;
- Sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpets;
- Stripping, waxing and polishing floors as required;
- Break down all recycling and put out for pick up, weekly on Tuesdays;
- Restock and replenishes supplies (e.g.) paper towels, toilet tissue and soap;
- Maintain outer premises by cleaning the entrances, shoveling the walkways, clearing of leaves, grass cutting and trimming of trees and shrubs as needed;
- Keeps supply room and janitor rooms neat and orderly;
- Ensure cleaning supplies and materials are stored properly, with correct labeling and information about the safe use of hazardous products;
- Keeping an inventory of cleaning supplies and ordering them as needed;
- Perform maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks, replacing light bulbs etc.);
- Report major damages and any equipment that is broken to the Operations Manager;
- Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows and setting up the alarm (If applicable);
- Help/ assist with event set up and take down as needed.
Competencies:
- Demonstrates knowledge of safe handling, proper application and safe disposal of cleaning products and supplies including chemical liquids and other hazardous components
- Skilled in maintaining properties to ensure safety, functionality and appearance
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and bending
- Attention to detail and consistency in cleaning standards
- Ability to multi-task, time manage and have good interpersonal skills
- Must work effectively and efficiently with others and alone with little or no supervision
Qualifications
- Highschool diploma (preferred but not required)
- Prior experience with cleaning office spaces
- Attention to detail
- Valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle required
Salary: $38,700 - $47,300 (with a 3- month probation)
Benefits: Health care spending account, 2 weeks paid vacation, 10 days of paid sick time, 5 paid wellness days, holiday closures.
Schedule: 7:30-3:30 Monday to Friday with evenings and weekends as needed
