Position Overview
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for supporting daily waste and recycling operations, including driver coordination, route management, equipment readiness, training, and customer service. This role provides leadership and support to drivers while ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable service delivery.
Key ResponsibilitiesDriver Support & Supervision
- Coordinate daily driver schedules and support route execution.
- Provide training and coaching for new employees on equipment operation, safety procedures, waste room standards, and company expectations.
- Maintain training documentation and ensure required certifications and records are current.
- Conduct regular driver meetings, check-ins, and performance reviews.
- Complete incident reporting and follow up as required.
Route & Dispatch Coordination
- Review and manage daily routes to support efficiency and service standards.
- Coordinate with Dispatch and Supervisors regarding route changes, equipment needs, and service requirements.
- Monitor route performance, including downtime, fuel usage, disposal records, and completion of required documentation.
- Review upcoming routes and ensure drivers have the information needed for successful service delivery.
Equipment & Site Management
- Ensure equipment is prepared, maintained, and ready for delivery or service.
- Complete site assessments and provide recommendations regarding equipment requirements.
- Monitor equipment inventory, supplies, and readiness.
- Support basic equipment maintenance and operational needs.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture.
- Ensure drivers complete required pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Support compliance with transportation regulations, company policies, and customer site requirements.
- Ensure incidents, injuries, equipment concerns, and safety issues are reported promptly.
Customer Service
- Build positive relationships with customers, employees, and community members.
- Represent CMD professionally at customer locations.
- Support a high standard of service quality and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience in waste and recycling, transportation, logistics, or a similar operational environment.
- Experience supervising or supporting drivers is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and solve problems effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and safety-focused.
- Ability to operate and understand various waste collection equipment and vehicles.
- Knowledge of commercial, residential, and construction site safety practices is an asset.
Physical Requirements
This role requires physical ability to support operational activities, including:
- Frequent entry and exit from vehicles.
- Sitting and driving for extended periods.
- Repetitive movements and equipment checks.
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs and assisting with moving equipment and materials.
- Completing equipment preparation, cleaning, decal application, and waste room support as required.
Safety Expectations
Employees are expected to:
- Operate equipment safely and legally at all times.
- Complete required inspections and documentation.
- Maintain required personal protective equipment, including hard hat, high-visibility clothing, eye protection, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
- Report hazards, incidents, injuries, and equipment concerns immediately.
