Reports To: General Manager
Salary Range: CA$70,000 – CA$85,000 annually (based on experience and qualifications)
Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and providing financial reporting and analysis to management. This role works closely with farm and warehouse teams to ensure inventory, operational costs, and financial data are accurately recorded and reported.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, analytical, and exceptionally detail-oriented, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment where accuracy and accountability are critical.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Management
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger and supporting schedules
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Prepare and post journal entries
- Lead month-end and year-end close activities
- Prepare financial statements, management reports, and supporting analyses
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation
- Support cash flow monitoring and reporting
Inventory & Operational Accounting
- Monitor and reconcile inventory transactions across farm and warehouse operations
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies and variances
- Support physical inventory counts and inventory reporting
- Assist with operational cost tracking and profitability analysis
- Work closely with farm and warehouse teams to ensure inventory and operational data are accurately captured and reported
- Analyze trends and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency
Compliance & Controls
- Prepare and file GST/HST returns and other regulatory reporting requirements
- Support year-end financial processes and external accounting reviews
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls
- Assist with audit requests and supporting documentation
- Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen financial controls and reporting accuracy
Financial Analysis & Business Support
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
- Provide financial insights and reporting to support operational decision-making
- Analyze financial performance and identify areas for improvement
- Support special projects and business initiatives as required
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting principles
- Experience with month-end and year-end close processes
- Strong knowledge of general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in agriculture, food production, warehousing, manufacturing, or distribution environments
- Experience with inventory accounting and inventory reconciliation
- Experience supporting operational cost analysis
- Experience with ERP systems
- CPA designation or progress toward a CPA designation is considered an asset
- Bilingual in English and Mandarin is considered an asset
