Expert Cleaners Inc. — On-Site Location: Private School Campus, Thornhill, Ontario Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week (8 hours/day, 5 days/week)
Expert Cleaners Job Overview
Expert Cleaners Inc. is a GTA-based commercial cleaning and building maintenance company serving institutional, commercial, and educational clients across the Greater Toronto Area since 2006. As part of our expanded facility management program at a private school campus in Thornhill, we're looking for a skilled, reliable Handyman to handle the hands-on repair and light renovation work that keeps a 75,000 sq. ft. campus in good shape year-round.
This is a hands-on, full-time role focused on skilled-trade repair, maintenance, and light renovation work across the campus. You'll report to Expert Cleaners' Director of Operations and work closely with the Property Manager on assigned projects and priorities.
Duties
- Perform carpentry and general woodworking repairs throughout the campus, including furniture, cabinetry, and built-ins.
- Carry out painting and finishing work in classrooms, common areas, and administrative spaces.
- Handle minor plumbing repairs (leaky fixtures, running toilets, clogged drains) and minor electrical repairs (outlets, switches, light fixtures) within the scope of general maintenance.
- Complete drywall repairs, patching, and touch-ups.
- Repair and maintain flooring, doors, locks, and hardware throughout the buildings.
- Sand and refinish classroom floors, desks, and chairs during the summer break maintenance window.
- Install and remove fireproof curtains in Early Childhood rooms as scheduled.
- Support seasonal and yearly maintenance items from the campus maintenance calendar (e.g., woodwork inspections, wall repairs, deep-clean-adjacent repair work during winter break).
- Take on facility upgrade or repair projects assigned by the Property Manager, working within agreed timelines and budgets.
- Log completed work and material usage in Expert Cleaners' facilities management software.
Experience
- 1–2 years of hands-on experience as a handyman or multi-trade maintenance worker; commercial, institutional, or educational setting experience is an asset but not required.
- Working knowledge across multiple trades: carpentry, basic plumbing, basic electrical, painting, drywall, and flooring.
- Experience with floor sanding and refinishing is a strong asset.
- Comfortable managing your own project timeline and materials for assigned repair or refinishing jobs.
- Own basic hand and power tools preferred; larger equipment provided by Expert Cleaners as needed.
- Strong communication skills in English to coordinate with the Property Manager and school staff.
- Must be able to pass a vulnerable sector police record check, as this role is based on an active school campus.
Why Join Expert Cleaners
- Project variety — real carpentry, refinishing, and repair work rather than one-off service calls.
- Steady, full-time hours at a single, established site, with a mix of daily repair work and larger seasonal projects.
- Team support — you're backed by Expert Cleaners' management and the on-site Property Manager, not working in isolation.
If you're a skilled, dependable tradesperson who takes pride in a well-kept building, we'd like to hear from you.
