Position Overview
At Avant Garde, safety is a top priority — upheld through a hospitality-driven approach. The Security/Event Attendant plays a key role in ensuring the well-being of guests, artists, and staff while protecting the venue and surrounding community. This position balances professionalism, discretion, and warmth, maintaining a secure environment without compromising the guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a welcoming, respectful, and professional presence at all times.
- Ensure the safety of guests, staff, and property through proactive monitoring and engagement.
- Protect the building and assets by conducting regular perimeter and interior checks.
- Prevent and address disturbances, ensuring that noise and activity levels remain respectful to the neighbourhood.
- Verify guest identification and maintain compliance with venue policies and alcohol regulations.
- Conduct bag checks or security screenings as required for specific events.
- Manage line control, guest flow, and re-entry to ensure a smooth experience.
- Respond calmly and effectively to conflicts, emergencies, or medical incidents.
- Assist guests as needed — providing directions, accessibility support, or general assistance.
- Maintain clear communication with management, production, and bar teams throughout events.
- Complete incident reports and document safety-related observations or actions.
Qualifications
- Valid Ontario Security Guard License (mandatory).
- Smart Serve certification (preferred).
- Prior experience in event security, hospitality, or nightlife preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a calm, guest-focused approach.
- Strong situational awareness and problem-solving ability.
- Professional demeanor, punctuality, and reliability are essential.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and manage high-energy environments.
- Knowledge of Toronto fire, safety, and bylaws considered an asset.
