For over 35 years, Resources for Exceptional Children and Youth (Resources), a well-established registered Canadian charity, has provided a range of services and supports to hundreds of families with children and youth with special needs who live in Durham Region. We are welcoming new Board Members who believe in our mission and can help us continue to build a robust organization with strong support, awareness, and partnerships.
Description:
Resources’ approach emphasizes collaboration with families, school boards, childcare centres, treatment providers, and other community agencies involved in a child or youth’s care to promote inclusion and access to meaningful services and supports. Our diverse and talented Volunteer Board are committed to building an inclusive community for children and youth with exceptional needs to thrive in.
We are currently seeking Board Members with diverse qualifications and expertise in one or more of the following:
- A parent/caregiver rep with living experience;
- Human resources, people and culture professional experience;
- Finance, CPA, Ministry Transfer Payment Funding; and/or
- Project management, program evaluation.
We are a highly collaborative, passionate, and progressive group of Board members from diverse professional backgrounds including Education, Finance, Social Services, Developmental Services, Public Sector Leadership, Communications, and Marketing. Resources is a trusted thought leader in Durham Region, not only because of our extensive experience but also because of our approach to providing innovative solutions and collaborative service plans.
Resources’ Annual General Meeting will take place on September 19, 2026, from 10:30 am-1:30pm and new member terms will begin at this meeting.

What you will bring:
Fresh ideas and community knowledge, policy, project management, monitoring and evaluation, information technology, people and culture expertise, and/or living experience of parenting exceptional children and youth.
What you will be doing:
- Volunteering 3-5 hours per month on Board activities for a 3-year term.
- Attending monthly Board meetings (except in July, August, and December), the Board of Directors usually meet on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 6:00-7:30pm.
- Participating in meetings that are offered in a hybrid format with in-person meetings held at our Oshawa office (approximately 5 meetings a year are in-person with the remaining meetings offered fully virutal).
