Compensation: From $45.82 per hour to $67.52 per hour, according to experience.
Regular Work Hours: 7.25 work hours per day not including unpaid .75 hour lunch break, to be worked during regular business hours, Monday to Friday (36.25 work hours per week). Additional paid hours occasionally required according to client business need.
Work Location: 100% onsite, at client's mid town Toronto office.
Position Reports To: Senior Audit Manager.
Responsibilities Summary:
Provide risk management, business consulting and assurance services to senior management to support the achievement of business objectives. Plan, coordinate and lead complex and multiple audit projects, including value-for money audits, special investigations, financial management and compliance audits. Negotiate and promote cost beneficial and practical recommendations resulting from audit findings.
- Provide expertise, advice and consulting services to assist clients in development, use and evaluation of risk management and control strategies, utilizing appropriate risk assessment and management methodologies. Design and implement risk assessment and quality assurance tools to meet the needs of government and external clients.
- Determine audit priorities, appropriate scope size and sample selection to verify and identify areas of concern, in accordance with functionally-related auditing and accounting principles, procedures, and professional code of conduct.
- Research current business trends and best practices to advise clients on specialized matters, overall audit program and related risks.
- Lead, supervise and coordinate audit activities, including interviewing stakeholders, documenting systems, extracting data and information, researching internal and external sources of information and reporting and presenting recommendations. Provide guidance, training and coaching to assigned team members.
- Analyze financial information including audited financial statements, budgets and settlements or transfer payments recipients with respect to initiating recoveries of surplus and/or unspent public funds.
- Oversee work performed by external consultants to ensure that products/services delivered meet the stated requirements.
- Liaise with directors, managers and staff in client ministries to share information, provide input on policies and governance, negotiate scope of audit projects and discuss audit findings. Liaise with Office of the Auditor General to resolve issues and provide implementation status related to recommendations and ministry responses.
- Assure decisions adhere to functionally-related auditing and accounting principles, audit policies, professional and government standards such as Institute of Internal Auditors standards, directives and codes of conduct.
- Additional risk management, assurance, advisory and project management responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
Education: Post Secondary Degree in Accounting or related discipline.
Professional Credentials: CPA and/or CIA Designation preferred.
Preferred Work Experience: At least 5+ years of internal audit experience, with priority given to value-for-money, financial management and compliance audit experience.
Preferred Sector Experience: Public sector experience preferred.
Technical and Language Skills Requirements:
- Advanced proficiency in MSOffice applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint (will be tested). Strong proficiency in database applications.
- Proficiency with specialized audit software such as IDEA or Audit Command Language to identify discrepancies in large quantities of data, and determine areas of highest risk to direct audit testing.
- Strong English language skills including strong business writing and verbal presentation skills suitable for a diverse range of audiences including senior leadership.
Task -Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes:
- Demonstrated understanding of generally accepted auditing standards, accounting principles, current audit practices and methodologies.
- Demonstrated understanding of generally accepted risk management frameworks and principles, principles, practices, standards, methodologies.
- Demonstrated understanding of government financial and accounting principles (GAAP,PSAB) to audit financial reporting and accountability frameworks/processes.
- Project management skills to establish and document operative control strategies and structures in identified risk areas, and to participate in strategic and operational projects within budget and target date.
- Interpersonal and negotiation skills to assist clients at senior management level in meeting the business objectives and influencing corrective action.
- Presentation skills to provide explanations of complex risk and prevention issues and strategies and present audit findings to clients and senior management.
- Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character. Responsible, reliable and works to deadlines, managing multiple concurrent projects.
- Proven ability to respond to sensitive and confidential matters with tact, discretion, and excellent judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy.
- Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively, and in an advisory capacity, and liaise effectively with a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
- Ability to work 100% onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
- Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of assignment responsibilities.
- Ability to complete a satisfactory Provincial Government security check, which may include a fingerprint check, prior to assignment start. Please note that Marberg will reimburse for the cost of the security checks upon confirmation of assignment start and submission of approved expense receipts.
- Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start.
- Additional satisfactory Background Checks, Technical Skills Evaluations, Interpersonal Skills Assessment, and Employment References as required.
