Winery Assistant Manager
Location: Commisso Estate Winery

About the Role
Commisso Estate Winery is seeking a motivated, dependable, and growth-oriented Winery Assistant Manager to support the ongoing development of our winery, restaurant, retail shop, wine club, events, and marketing operations.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced hospitality environment and is comfortable moving between operational, administrative, sales, marketing, and customer service responsibilities.
The Winery Assistant Manager will report to the Winery Manager and the Sales and Marketing Manager and will share responsibilities across both areas. The successful candidate will help oversee daily operations, lead a team of approximately 15 employees, support sales and marketing initiatives, and ensure guests receive a consistently positive experience.

Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Daily Operations
· Support the Winery Manager and Sales and Marketing Manager with daily winery operations.
· Help lead, supervise, motivate, and develop a team of approximately 15 employees.
· Hold team members accountable for performance, attendance, service standards, policies, and job expectations.
· Assist with staff training, scheduling, delegation, coaching, and performance management.
· Help ensure the winery, restaurant, retail shop, patio, and event spaces are operating efficiently.
· Maintain a professional, welcoming, organized, and guest-focused environment.
· Assist with opening and closing responsibilities.
· Respond to customer concerns and resolve service issues professionally.
· Support special events, live entertainment, wine club functions, private bookings, and seasonal programs.
Retail, Restaurant and Hospitality Support
· Work directly in the winery retail shop when required.
· Support the restaurant’s front-of-house operations, including guest service, reservations, table management, and point-of-sale procedures.
· Assist with back-of-house operations when necessary.
· Help maintain service standards, cleanliness, product knowledge, and operational consistency.
· Support the promotion and sale of wine, food, memberships, events, and other winery offerings.
· Ensure responsible alcohol service and compliance with all applicable policies and regulations.
Sales and Financial Reporting
· Prepare and communicate daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports.
· Help monitor sales performance, discounts, labour, expenses, promotions, and operational results.
· Assist with financial reporting, recordkeeping, cash procedures, reconciliations, and other administrative tasks.
· Use Excel and other reporting tools to organize and analyze business information.
· Identify sales opportunities and recommend ways to improve revenue, efficiency, and guest engagement.
· Maintain accuracy and confidentiality when handling financial and employee information.
Wine Club Support
· Assist with wine club membership sales, renewals, communication, and customer service.
· Support quarterly and annual wine club allotment preparation and fulfilment.
· Help coordinate member pickups, deliveries, payments, benefits, reservations, and special events.
· Maintain accurate membership information and provide a high level of service to wine club members.
· Help develop initiatives that improve member retention, participation, and overall satisfaction.
Marketing, Social Media and Customer Engagement
· Assist with social media planning, content creation, scheduling, and community engagement.
· Support the creation and execution of marketing and advertising campaigns.
· Use the winery’s AI technology and customer-management tools to develop campaigns that nurture existing customers and attract new guests.
· Create marketing materials, menus, posters, advertisements, event promotions, email campaigns, and internal documents.
· Work with Canva, Microsoft Office, Excel, and other digital platforms.
· Help maintain consistent branding across print, digital, social media, email, and in-person customer communications.
· Promote winery events, restaurant programs, wine club benefits, retail products, and seasonal offerings.
· Track campaign performance and recommend improvements based on results.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
· Previous management, supervisory, hospitality, retail, restaurant, winery, sales, or customer service experience.
· Strong leadership skills and the confidence to manage, coach, and hold employees accountable.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities.
· Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
· Experience with Canva or similar design software.
· Comfort using artificial intelligence tools, digital marketing platforms, social media, and customer databases.
· The ability to understand and report sales and financial information.
· A willingness to learn about wine, food, hospitality, marketing, events, and winery operations.
· The ability to work independently while also collaborating with management and staff.
· A professional attitude and a strong commitment to customer service.
· The ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy and changing environment.
· Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
Wine knowledge and previous winery experience are considered assets but are not required for a candidate who demonstrates strong leadership, business knowledge, and a willingness to learn.
Schedule Requirements
This position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week.
The successful candidate must be available to work:
· Weekdays and weekends
· Evenings
· Holidays
· Winery events and special functions
· Additional hours during busy seasons when required
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings are mandatory.
Compensation and Benefits
· Annual salary of $48,000–$55,000, based on experience.
