Established in 2008, T. Smith Engineering Inc. is a growing structural engineering and building science consulting firm specializing in the assessment, investigation, and restoration of buildings damaged by fire, water, wind, impact, structural movement, and other insured property losses.
Working with insurance companies, adjusters, contractors, lawyers, and property owners, our Professional Engineers assess damaged structures and develop practical, cost-effective, and Ontario Building Code-compliant repair solutions for residential, commercial, industrial, and multi-residential buildings throughout Ontario.
As our company continues to grow, we are looking for a skilled Structural Drafting Technician to join our team.
About the Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Structural Drafting Technician is a key member of our engineering team and provides drafting and technical support to our Professional Engineers and Engineering Technicians.
You will be responsible for producing accurate Autodesk Revit models, structural repair drawings, permit packages, and construction documents based on field measurements and engineering direction.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of restoration and structural engineering projects where every assignment presents new technical challenges and learning opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop accurate existing-condition models using Autodesk Revit.
- Prepare structural repair drawings under the direction of Professional Engineers.
- Produce permit-ready drawing packages.
- Draft floor plans, framing plans, elevations, sections, details, and construction drawings.
- Revise drawings based on engineering reviews and municipal comments.
- Coordinate drawing revisions throughout the life of each project.
- Assist with Building Code research and drawing compliance.
- Prepare documentation required for municipal permit submissions.
- Maintain organized electronic drawing files and project documentation.
- Participate in internal quality assurance reviews to ensure drawing accuracy and consistency.
- Follow company drafting standards, templates, and document control procedures.
Qualifications
Required
- Diploma in Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Building Technology, or a related discipline.
- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit is required.
- Strong technical drafting and detailing skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects while consistently meeting deadlines.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
Preferred Assets
- Experience working in a consulting engineering or structural engineering environment.
- Experience producing structural repair, renovation, or restoration drawings.
- Experience preparing municipal permit drawing packages.
- Working knowledge of residential construction methods.
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Ontario Building Code Part 9 (Housing and Small Buildings) is highly desirable.
- Experience working on insurance-related restoration projects is considered an asset.
- Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) or current enrollment is an asset

Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in structural restoration consulting, insurance restoration, or consulting engineering.

Pay: $60,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
