Job Title: Lathe Machinist
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Lathe Machinist to join our team. This position involves reviewing job packages, drawings, and work orders to ensure precise machining of parts. You will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC Vertical Turning Machines, machining parts to exact specifications, and ensuring all quality standards are met.
Responsibilities

Review job packages, drawings, and work orders prior to machining.

Set up and operate CNC Vertical Turning Machines (30”–200”+ diameter, 5,000–100,000+ lbs).

Operate from elevated platforms or machine cabins as required.

Machine parts to specifications using drawings, job travelers, and sketches.

Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements.

Perform pre-inspections before material removal.

Modify programs, offsets, and cutting parameters as needed.

Perform machining operations including facing, turning (OD/ID), grooving, threading, milling, and boring.

Measure and record critical dimensions using precision instruments.

Use overhead cranes for setup and handling large components.

Ensure compliance with ISO, customer, and internal quality standards.

Report non-conformances and support root cause analysis.

Maintain part traceability (Job #, WO #, material ID).

Identify improvements in cycle times and setup efficiency.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements.

Comply with health, safety, and environmental standards (CCOHS/WHMIS).
Essential Skills-
6-10 years of machining experience.

Ability to work with 3-5 ton minimum weight capacities.

Experience with machining custom and production parts.

Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading.

Proficiency in using overhead cranes and working at heights.

Experience with machining parts up to 30' in diameter.
Additional Skills & Qualifications-
Experience with Siemens or Fanuc systems.

Experience working with tight tolerances of 0.0005".
-
Red Seal certification is advantageous but not mandatory.

Work Environment
Join a large custom fabrication shop that manufactures parts for the construction, nuclear, military, and commercial sectors. Our facility is well-lit and clean, though it can be a loud environment. The day shift runs from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with overtime available.
