Wage: $75,000 per annum
Full-time (37.5 hrs/week) 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (Occasional overtime, evenings, weekend, and field work will be required)

The Opportunity
The Conservation Programs Manager (CPM) is responsible for implementing the strategic conservation goals of Assiniboine Park Conservancy (APC) and maintaining the high-quality standards of scientific based decision making and research to attain those goals.
The CPM will lead and work within a team to write grant-funding proposals, conduct research, manage grant budgets, and communicate progress and results. This will involve managing and developing conservation programs and resources, researching grant funding opportunities, contributing to the development, implementation, and management of internal research and conservation projects, maintaining high standards of data collection and management while conducting research, facilitating approved research by external scientists, and communicating results and conservation messages. The CPM will oversee and direct human and financial resources in accordance with APC and granting agency policies. They will contribute to the mentoring of students and volunteers.
Responsibilities include:
- Project management.
- Scientific research.
- Grant proposal and report writing.
- Data collection in the zoo and in the field.
- Coordination of the implementation of research in the zoo by external scientists.
- Communication of research and conservation progress and results.
- Implementation of conservation programs.
- Coordination of select committees (e.g., Research Ethics Review Committee).
- Related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum M.Sc. in biological science or a related field.
- Minimum of five years proven experience participating in wildlife research projects.
- Minimum of 3 years experience managing Conservation or Research projects including oversight of human and financial resources.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, and visitors.
- Knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office and R statistical software.
- Must possess a Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License.
- Candidates must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
- The ability to work under pressure and deal with confidential and sensitive matters.
- The ability to speak French and/or other languages are considered assets.
