Job Summary
DoubleTree by Hilton North Vancouver is seeking an experienced, organized, hand-on and proactive Maintenance Manager to lead all engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the physical integrity, safety, appearance, and efficiency of the property while leading the maintenance team, managing capital projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, and overseeing preventative maintenance programs.
This leadership role requires strong organizational skills, project management experience, technical expertise, and the ability to proactively identify and address building maintenance needs before they impact operations or guest satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the Engineering and Maintenance team, providing coaching, training, performance management, and ongoing development.
- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for guest rooms, public areas, building systems, and hotel equipment.
- Coordinate and manage maintenance projects, renovations, and capital improvements, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Maintain a master schedule for all required annual, quarterly, and monthly building inspections and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Proactively coordinate and track inspections including fire and life safety systems, elevators, pool and hot tub operations, emergency lighting, backflow prevention, HVAC systems, and other building-related certifications.
- Chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee and lead regular safety meetings, inspections, hazard assessments, and corrective action follow-up.
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems, boilers, electrical systems, plumbing systems, fire alarm systems, elevators, pool and hot tub facilities, fitness equipment, and other building infrastructure.
- Utilize maintenance tracking systems and documentation to ensure accurate records and compliance with Hilton standards.
- Troubleshoot and perform hands-on repairs when required.
- Coordinate and supervise contractors, vendors, and service providers.
- Manage departmental budgets, purchasing, inventory, and vendor relationships.
- Monitor maintenance expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service standards.
- Work closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, and other departments to support hotel operations and guest satisfaction.
- Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to operational planning and decision-making.
- Respond to maintenance emergencies outside of regular working hours as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of progressive maintenance leadership experience in hospitality, commercial, residential, or institutional facilities.
- Previous hotel engineering experience preferred.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with proven experience supervising maintenance personnel.
- Extensive knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, boilers, life safety systems, and general building maintenance.
- Experience developing and managing preventative maintenance programs.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Experience coordinating contractors, inspections, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and health and safety programs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance management software.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, schematics, and building plans.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid BC Driver's License.
- Trade certification or technical designation is considered an asset.
