We are seeking an experienced Electrical Designer to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients to develop electrical designs for a variety of projects while contributing to a collaborative and fast-paced consulting environment.
Position Overview
The Electrical Designer will be responsible for the design, drafting, coordination, and construction support of electrical systems for commercial building projects. This position is ideal for a motivated individual who enjoys technical design, problem solving, and seeing projects through from concept to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare electrical designs, drawings, specifications, and calculations for commercial, retail, restaurant, office, and industrial projects.
- Design power distribution systems, lighting systems, emergency power systems, fire alarm systems, and low-voltage systems.
- Perform electrical load calculations, panel schedules, voltage drop calculations, and equipment sizing.
- Coordinate designs with mechanical, architectural, structural, and other disciplines.
- Conduct site reviews, field investigations, and site measurements as required.
- Respond to RFIs, review shop drawings, and provide construction support throughout project execution.
- Participate in client, consultant, and contractor meetings.
- Assist with permit submissions and authority reviews.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Contribute to maintaining E.M.E. Group's design standards and quality control processes.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of consulting engineering experience in building electrical systems.
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Canadian Electrical Code, and applicable industry standards.
- Experience designing power, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with restaurant, retail, commercial, or financial institution projects is considered an asset.
