Position Summary
The primary responsibility of the Communications Coordinator is to assist with the implementation of SSMU's strategy for online and offline communication channels. Furthermore, the Communications Coordinator will oversee and grow our social media strategy across multiple platforms.
Responsibilities:
1. Social Media
- Create engaging collaborations, posts, especially contests, and stories for the monthly social media calendar to grow the social media presence.
- To create the SSMU Communication Yearly Plan;
- To implement the communication strategy on social media channels;
- To adapt writing style for different audiences and channels;
- To conceptualize and create social media content (stories, photos, and posts) for the SSMU social media platforms, including, but not limited to Instagram;
- To schedule posts via our content scheduling platform;
- To plan and execute social media campaigns for SSMU projects and events such as SSMU Awards, Activities Night, Menstrual Health Program, and more;
- To produce reports on social media, listserv and website data, including sponsorship reports for clients;
- To coordinate with the SSMU Translators and Graphic Designer to create listservs, social media posts, print posters, and more;
- To attend and promote SSMU events by using stories, live streaming and recording, including, but not limited to, Legislative Council meetings, General Assemblies, Activities Night, and SSMU Awards;
- To monitor and respond to social media conversations;
- To collaborate with other departments, commissions, coordinators, and executives to create and post content on social media channels;
- To coordinate paid partnership ads in the listserv and on social media as stipulated by the Sponsorship Coordinator;
- To coordinate giveaway contests for Sponsorship and other departments;
- To manage the event ticketing system, providing support for creating events and issuing reimbursements;
- To coordinate the Instagram takeovers with other departments, faculties, and Services.
2. Listserv
- To create the content and templates for the SSMU newsletters.
3. Branding
- To maintain consistent branding across all the SSMU channels;
- To assist with the production, reception, and distribution of printing materials and publications;
- To support the creation of basic design and layout, more complicated projects will go to a Graphic Designer.
4. Website
- Assist with maintaining the website to ensure all information remains up to date;
- Support the uploading of governing body documentation to the website.
5. Building Signage
- Installation and removal of posters in the UC;

Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, English, or a related field;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and French required.
- 1 (one) year of hands-on experience in social media management and community engagement on social media platforms, across large and diverse stakeholder groups ;
- Experience with scheduling tools;
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and G Suite;
- Good planning, interpersonal and organizational skills;
- Well-versed in copyediting (grammar, spelling, etc.);
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, etc.) and CANVA is an asset;
- Experience with video editing is an asset;
- Familiarity with WordPress and HTML is an asset;
- Experience in a university environment is an asset.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $45,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
