Senior Piping Designer (on-call Part-Time) Calgary AB
The Senior Piping Designer is responsible for designing, modeling, and checking of piping deliverables. This includes developing initial layouts, overseeing revising existing CAD drawings and creating and manipulating drawings from conceptual markups or verbal instructions to meet project requirements. Our ideal candidate will have excellent 3D Modeling skills.
Key Responsibilities
· Create and manipulate advanced drawings using CAD software and modeling in a 3D environment using CADWorx.
· Coordinate design with other disciplines, apply basic engineering concepts, engineering calculations and efficient discipline specific layout of equipment to support high quality design packages.
· Assist Engineering with layout studies, MTO’s and developing scope of work for piping design and drafting activities.
· Research and evaluate technical data and communicate with manufacturers, clients, and other engineers to complete the assigned design task.
· Identify the impact of changes on other disciplines and communicate changes to other disciplines.
· Responsible for following corporate safety protocols.
· Conduct preliminary QA/QC and checking.
· Maintain drawing and standards files in accordance with organizational and client standards.
· Ensure continuity between conceptual designs and detail designs.
· Responsible for the technical adequacy and quality of the work, and adherence to schedule required for the assigned task or project.
Qualifications, Education and Experience
- Degree or diploma in Drafting, Engineering Technology or other relevant program and/or a combination of related technical courses and work experience.
- Minimum 10+ years’ experience directly related to Piping Design.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in preparing P&ID’s, Piping Plan and Sections as well as Piping Isometric Drawings.
- Ability to apply relevant ASME, API, ANSI standards, requirements and restrictions to the design.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of piping support selection, placement and equipment layout.
- Solid working knowledge of piping requirements for equipment (e.g. pumps, compressors, heat exchangers).
- Advanced working knowledge of computer skills and of CAD (AutoCAD), CADWorx and Microsoft Office products.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a high pressure and demanding work environment. Ability to organize and prioritize project work.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn new techniques and software.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
