We are seeking a skilled and experienced Family Law Clerk who enjoys hands-on, independent work and being an integral part of a close-knit legal team.
About the Role
This position is ideal for an experienced Family Law Clerk who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment. You will play a key role in supporting counsel, managing files from opening to closing, drafting pleadings, motions and orders. Ensuring clients experience clear and timely communication throughout their matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Opening, managing, and closing client files in compliance with Law Society and firm requirements
- Maintaining accurate, well-organized electronic files
- Drafting and assisting with preparation of family law documents, including:
- Applications, Answers, Motions, Conference Briefs, and Financial Statements
- Affidavits, sworn documents, and supporting materials
- Professional correspondence to clients, opposing counsel, and the court
- Filing documents through the Ontario Court online filing system and monitoring deadlines
- Communicating with clients in a professional, empathetic, and timely manner
- Assisting with disclosure management, document review, and file updates
- Using DivorceMate and Clio for file management, billing support, and data entry
- Coordinating court dates, scheduling, and administrative follow-ups
- Ensuring files are complete, accurate, and court-ready at all times
Required Qualifications & Experience
- 2–3 years of experience working in an Ontario family law office (required)
- Strong understanding of Ontario family law procedures and court processes
- Practical experience with DivorceMate, Clio, and the Ontario Court online filing system
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational ability
- Ability to manage multiple files and deadlines efficiently
- Comfortable working independently in a remote setting
- Professional, reliable, and discreet with confidential information
Assets
- Experience working in a boutique or remote office environment
- Exposure to Legal Aid Ontario files and procedures
- Ability to anticipate next steps and proactively support counsel
