The Opportunity
We are seeking an Alumni Engagement Officer (3-year contract) to support the Faculty of Health Sciences.
In this role, you will play a key part in strengthening relationships with FHS alumni by designing and delivering strategic engagement opportunities that foster connection, pride, and long-term involvement with McMaster.
As a results-oriented professional, you will develop and manage a mix of virtual and in-person programming, as well as volunteer and recognition initiatives, tailored to the unique needs and interests of FHS alumni.
Job Summary
Responsible for providing high-quality, meaningful opportunities for alumni to maintain positive relationships with the University by providing programs that achieve the goals of McMaster, University Advancement, and the McMaster Alumni Association. This includes supporting McMaster University; involving alumni; communicating with alumni; recognizing alumni achievements; providing services and benefits for alumni; and involving current McMaster students. Responsible for working towards achieving all goals above with a specific focus on an assigned portfolio.
Due to the nature of this position, some evening and weekend work, as well as occasional travel, will be required.
Accountabilities
Responsible for the recruitment, orientation, training, recognition, and ongoing coordination of volunteer programs ( volunteer management experience a strong asset)
Complete an annual needs assessment and recommend an action plan; provide input into program planning and objectives
Evaluate ongoing alumni engagement programs within the portfolio and recommend enhancements
Implement and manage the program budget, including financial projections and adjustments throughout the fiscal year
Plan, coordinate, and oversee events involving alumni, students, faculty, community members, and senior leadership
Collaborate across University Advancement and faculty teams, including Alumni Engagement, Development, Communications, and Advancement Services
Develop and produce communications materials (print and digital) for alumni audiences
Represent the University, Faculty, and Alumni Association through written, virtual, and in-person engagement, including managing inquiries and concerns
Develop and deliver presentations in a variety of public-facing settings
Establish and refine practices related to the assigned portfolio
Maintain accurate records in alumni databases and systems; extract and analyze data as needed
Participate in broader University Advancement initiatives and project teams
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; a McMaster degree is an asset
Experience
Minimum of 3 years of relevant expereince.
Knowledge and Skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
Excellent organizational skills with an integrated, strategic approach
High attention to detail
Proficiency with databases (e.g., Ellucian Advance), CRM tools, and virtual platforms (Zoom, Teams)
Strong customer service orientation
Effective time management and multitasking abilities
Knowledge of McMaster policies and University Advancement practices is an asset
