Orchard View Gardens is seeking a compassionate, creative, and enthusiastic Activity Aide to join our Memory Living team. In this role, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging recreational, social, cognitive, and therapeutic programs that enhance the quality of life for residents living with dementia and other memory-related conditions.
As an Activity Aide, you will play an important role in creating meaningful experiences that promote resident engagement, independence, dignity, and overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and facilitate daily recreational, social, cognitive, and therapeutic activities for residents.
- Develop and deliver meaningful programming tailored to the unique needs of residents living with dementia and memory-related conditions.
- Utilize person-centered approaches to support resident engagement, independence, dignity, and quality of life.
- Assist with special events, celebrations, outings, and seasonal programming.
- Document resident attendance, participation, and responses in accordance with residence policies.
- Collaborate with nursing staff, Personal Support Workers, families, and other team members to support individual resident needs and interests.
- Create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all residents.
- Implement innovative activities that reflect residents' interests, abilities, cultural backgrounds, and changing cognitive needs.
- Prepare and maintain activity supplies and materials.
- Encourage resident participation and provide individualized support as needed.
- Engage residents through reminiscence, sensory stimulation, music, cognitive exercises, life-skills programming, and other evidence-based dementia care practices.
- Build positive relationships with residents and families while promoting inclusion, participation, and emotional well-being.
Qualifications
- Experience working with seniors, particularly those living with dementia or cognitive impairment, is preferred.
- Knowledge of person-centered dementia care principles and memory care programming.
- Recreation and Leisure Services, Therapeutic Recreation, Gerontology, Personal Support Worker, or related education is considered an asset.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated patience, creativity, flexibility, and compassion when supporting individuals with cognitive impairment and responsive behaviours.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
