Camp Shalom is an overnight summer camp located in Gravenhurst, Ontario on Lake Muskoka. As an organization, our goal is to create a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment for each individual. Through engaging programming we provide opportunities for staff and campers to have fun, build confidence, and create lifelong memories.
Role Description
The Unit Head role for campers aged 7-9 is an out-of-cabin position, meaning that you will be living in a staff cabin throughout the summer.
Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing both staff and campers in the unit
- Ensuring staff are fulfilling their responsibilities
- Resolving challenges in the unit
- Collaborating with the camper care and leadership team
- Ensuring the unit remains on schedule
- Maintaining confidentiality
- Providing extra support to cabins if necessary
- Helping young children adjust to overnight camp experiences
- Checking in with campers and staff throughout the summer
- Planning ways to maintain positive cabin environments
This position begins with head staff pre-camp training on June 18, 2026, and employment ends on August 14, 2026.
Qualifications
- Enthusiasm and a positive attitude
- Experience working with young children
- Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Excellent leadership, mentorship skills, and ability to work as part of the Head Staff team
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work in an outdoor summer environment
- Previous camp experience is an asset
- Previous leadership experience is an asset
