As the Operations Supervisor, you will be the bridge between our drivers, dispatch team, and upper management. You will oversee a workforce of approximately long-haul drivers and office staff, ensuring our TMS systems are utilized to their full potential and our freight movements remain seamless.
Job responsibilities:
- Direct management and coaching of drivers and a dispatch/office team.
- Manage cross-border long-haul operations, with a heavy focus on refrigerated and dry van business.
- Establish and conduct regular performance evaluations for both office staff (on workflow accuracy) and drivers (on safety, reliability, and efficiency)
- Design and implement robust systems for the "smooth flow of information" between drivers, dispatch, and accounting to eliminate bottlenecks.
- Assisting LC' s in booking loads and reloads through prospecting and new business development .
- Assisting planners in managing available equipment and drivers.
- Proactively maintain and strengthen relationships with key accounts, ensuring that the "Canadian Prairie" level of service is consistently met.
- Ensure the TMS system is updated in a timely and accurate manner by all staff.
- Evaluate changes in market conditions and negotiate best purchase price while assessing all angles of the situation
- Handle customer communications regarding fuel surcharges and pricing adjustments while maintaining professional, long-term partnerships.
Desired Skills and Experience :
- 5+ years in transportation operations, specifically with long-haul and/or refrigerated freight.
- Proven track record managing large, remote teams (drivers) and an office-based dispatch environment.
- Sound analytical and critical thinking skills
- Exceptional negotiation, decision making and organizational skills
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
- The ability to thrive in a fast-pace, deadline-oriented environment
- The ideal candidate will be an independent self-starter with excellent problem solving skills, who also can work as a team when needed.
