This position requires traveling in Canada and internationally.
Detailed relevant experience in mining geotechnical investigation for at least one of underground mining, open pit mining, or mining waste management is required. Task Requirements:
-
Carry out desk studies, risk assessments, and interpret ground investigation data and develop ground models
-
Work on site from time to time and as needed on Canadian and international projects
-
Provide geotechnical input to risk registers and report changes to the geotechnical risks when they arise
-
Assist with preparation of scope and specification, supervision and management of mining geotechnical investigations
-
Work within a team environment collecting geotechnical data, soil and rock and ore samples and performing in situ testing using standard and advanced coring and sampling tools
-
Conduct Mining Geotechnical Investigation such as CPT, coring, and sampling, and ensure boreholes are drilled correctly
-
Conduct mining core logging to classify soil, rock, and ore samples, and perform index and strength testing on collected samples
-
Preserve mining and ore samples for transport to Alpha Adroit's laboratory testing facility
-
Guide and oversee junior engineers and field technicians in conducting sampling and in situ and field laboratory testing, and identify training needs
-
Adhere to Alpha Adroit and client-required Health, Safety, and Environmental protocols at all times
-
Perform quality assurance checks on all mining geotechnical testing and data processing, interpretation, and reporting
-
Assist the Client's Site Representative in planning, coordinating, and managing field data acquisition and sampling activities
-
Produce daily field reports and communicate progress to client representative
-
Produce field reports using Quality Management Systems (QMS) reporting protocol and procedures, comprising of sampling, in situ testing, and index testing procedures and results
-
Support proposal preparation, data interpretation and review, and engineering reporting, assist in planning and mobilizing mining geotechnical investigation projects, support geotechnical field data acquisition activities, including quality assurance checks on all mining geotechnical testing, and maintain client contact

Contribute to know-how development and retention, including the development of discipline tools and procedures and transfer of lessons learned

Attend meetings with Client (such as design reviews, presentation of study results, presentation of tendering, and as needed)
Technical and other Position Requirements:

Bachelor degree (BS or BSc) in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or another related field
- Numerical analysis and modeling skills are a MUST

Expertise in using RockScience software package is required

Expertise in using UDEC, EDEM, Vulcan, ArcGIS, and other mining software is considered an asset

Expertise in using Plaxis 3D software is considered an asset

Expertise in using GeoStudio and Soil Vision software is considered an asset

Expertise in BIMand AutoCAD 3D is considered an asset

Expertise in the Python Programming Language is considered an asset
- Experience in Risk Analysis and Risk Assessment Techniques is considered an asset

Experience on risk assessment due to surface deformation induced by underground mining is considered an asset

Experience in numerical analysis for underground mining and open-pit mining is required

Experience on the modeling of soft rocks and creep is considered an asset

Expertise in mine planning is considered an asset

Expertise in geotechnical instrumentation in underground mining and open pit mining is considered an asset

Master or Ph.D. degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Mining Engineering is considered an asset

Willing to travel abroad on project work and willing to supervise site works under severe site conditions

Team player, with the ability to communicate with clients and report writing

A minimum of 1 to 3 years of mining geotechnical investigation experience performing and leading mining geotechnical activities. Having 10+ years of experience is considered a great asset. Relevant experience may include mining geotechnical site investigations, geological site characterization for mining projects, hydrogeological assessment for mining projects, underground mining, surface mining (open pit), shallow and deep excavations, gravel and aggregate quarries, clay pits, tailing facilities and tailing dams, waste rock storage facilities, ash disposal sites, mining landfills, mining haul roads, continuous mining construction oversight, mining quality assurance and quality control (qa/qc), numerical modeling for mining geotechnical engineering applications, and forensic mining geotechnical engineering and expert witness services

Working proficiency with Microsoft Office software and ability to quickly learn job-specific software applications

Excellent English writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills

Flexible, innovative, and the ability to work in teams are critical requirements for this position

Ability to work long hours (up to 12-hour shifts when required) in the field, sometimes under pressure and severe weather conditions, and always within deadlines

Acceptable driving record and possession of a valid driver’s license

Completion of a pre-employment physical exam and drug screening

Demonstrable experience in the delivery of geotechnical projects and reports

Use or management of GIS datasets, working experience with ArcGIS

Awareness of Canadian and provincial mining and natural resources regulatory processes, environment and stakeholders is considered an asset
