Opportunity
Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Cost Consultant will be responsible for completing class D, B, C, and A estimates. The Cost Consultant will also assist the Senior Cost Consultant and Senior Project Monitor in completing site inspections, evaluating contractors’ progress claims and reviewing relevant loan documentation to ensure the requirements of the loan agreement are being met.
Responsibilities
Estimating:
- Review project documents and determine the scope of work.
- Set up and complete estimating in the required format.
- Develop preliminary construction schedules to determine project durations.
- Complete detailed quantification of building elements based on drawings and specifications.
- Assist in the development of assembly pricing for use in the final estimate.
- Review completed estimates for completeness and complete quality assurance checks.
Project Monitoring:
- Prepare Loan Monitoring reports.
- Perform site inspections and documentation, including photographs and related loan schedules.
- Complete initial project reviews and reference current market conditions and data.
- Collaborate with management, validate and track project budget, analyze costs to date and cost to complete to determine validity.
- Ensure the processing of payment certification under construction contracts in compliance with the appropriate lien legislation.
- Assist in the negotiation of change orders if required by the client.
- Use data gathered through project monitoring activities to expand the cost database for future reference.
Stakeholder Relations:
- Manage relationships with stakeholders to keep abreast of project updates and milestones.
- Communicate any updates and/or concerns internally to ensure the project remains on time and within budget.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of construction-related experience, including estimating and site experience, will be considered an asset.
- Post-secondary education in construction management, quantity surveying, civil/structural engineering, building science or another related field is required.
- Demonstrated understanding of the construction industry, including development, contracting and consulting sectors.
- Previous experience with CIQS standard method of measurement and Uniformat is considered an asset.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, with an understanding of OST or other on-screen estimating software.
- The successful candidate will be working towards their PQS or CEC designation.
