St. Clair College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and student success.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the General Manager, Operations - Engineering and Skilled Trades, the incumbent provides technical expertise assisting faculty and students, with respect to previously taught material, provides supervision, prepares materials for lab, and conducts demonstrations in relation to the student learning activities. Further, the incumbent installs, maintains and repairs all shop equipment and all other shops and labs as directed by their supervisor. The incumbent maintains an inventory of all supplies for the program and maintains records of equipment maintenance, scheduled repairs, service and replacement including equipment identification in the labs.
CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides Technologist support to the program - 45%
- Conducts work oriented demonstrations reinforcing previously taught material to students on the shop floor
- Solves work oriented problems with students and faculty
- Clarifies theoretical problems with students and faculty
- Assists with ongoing student evaluation
- Maintains a safe working environment
- Prepares and sets up all equipment relating to shop demonstrations for both faculty and students
Maintenance and Repairs - 25%
- Repair, maintain and calibrate equipment and instruments
- Set-up and maintain a weekly and monthly preventative maintenance schedule
- Update and modify existing teaching equipment and design and construct teaching aids
- Compiles and analyses data in order to provide recommendations as to the appropriate course of action when updating or modifying layout or equipment in shops
- Maintains inventory of all supplies and orders for both day and evening courses 15%
- Provides technical assistance to faculty and gives support to skilled trade workers 5%
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned 10%
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
The ideal candidate will have a 433A Red Seal Trade Ticket Certificate of Qualification
EXPERIENCE
- The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of 2 years’ of recent and related experience
- Must possess experience in good demonstration skills coupled with analytical ability
- Must be able to communicate openly, clearly, and effectively in both written and verbal modes
ANALYSIS & PROBLEM SOLVING
- Determining shop-learning experiences for students
- Providing shop time and experience for students who have missed program components, transfer and re-entry students, or
students that require remediation to grasp particular components of program of study
- Diagnose equipment repair/calibrate defective equipment used in the FCEM area
PLANNING/COORDINATING
- Planning student shop experience
- Planning shop orientation activities
