In this role, you’ll report directly to the General Manager of The June Motel.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for executing day-to-day handyman services, basic repairs, and general maintenance to ensure the property is kept to a high standard inside and out. Working alongside and under the direct supervision of the General Manager, this role focuses on performing basic repairs, seasonal touch-ups, and providing practical consulting to the GM on larger issues, while recognizing when tasks require escalation to professional tradespeople.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The position includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Take ownership of the overall condition, functionality, and appearance of the property by proactively identifying maintenance needs, prioritizing work, and completing repairs that support an exceptional guest experience.
- Perform routine handyman services throughout the property, including conducting repairs and performing basic carpentry.
- Handle basic plumbing tasks (e.g., general repairs, addressing minor leaks) and straightforward electrical tasks.
- Conduct minor painting, surface finishing, and basic drywall repairs to keep guest rooms and common areas in pristine condition.
- Maintain exterior property standards by assisting with light groundskeeping, janitorial upkeep, and outdoor presentation.
- Prioritize maintenance work based on guest impact, safety, operational requirements, and available resources, adjusting priorities as new issues arise.
- Support the General Manager with building maintenance schedules to cover all routine tasks.
- Assist the General Manager with establishing practical operational plans for responding to emergency situations.
- Evaluate maintenance issues to determine whether repairs should be completed in-house or referred to licensed trades. Assist General Manager with coordinating contractors as required, providing site access, oversight, and quality control while ensuring work is completed efficiently and to our standards.
- Coordinate and cooperate with internal motel colleagues to enhance overall guest service and property functionality.
- Assist with seasonal property opening and closing maintenance activities.
- Maintain an organized inventory of maintenance tools, equipment, and commonly used supplies, ensuring materials are available to complete repairs efficiently while minimizing waste and unnecessary purchases.
- Attend hardware stores to purchase supplies under the direction of the General Manager, as required.
- Follow all health, safety, and service compliance protocols while executing daily tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 5 years of general maintenance, handyman services, or building upkeep.
- General, practical knowledge of plumbing, basic electrical, painting, drywall, and grounds maintenance.
- Good judgment to determine when maintenance issues can be handled internally versus when they require licensed professional tradespeople.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively under the direct supervision of the General Manager.
- Comfortable working independently at a steady pace while adjusting to consistent daily interruptions.
- Physically capable of heavy lifting (approx. 40 lbs) and managing physical layout tasks.
- Flexible schedule based on business needs, including availability for day and occasional evening and weekend shifts, and being available after-hours for property emergencies.
- A professional, kind, courteous, and positive demeanour when interacting with staff, guests, and external contractors.
- Comfort or interest in utilizing basic digital tracking systems or computer technology is an asset.

- Start date: July 2026
- Compensation: $23.00 - $35.00 per hour, depending on experience
- Hours: 8 hours per week (2 x 4-hour shifts)
