Bigstone Health Commission is seeking compassionate, reliable Shelter Coordinator to join our team and help maintain a safe and supportive environment for individuals experiencing homelessness. This role is essential to the daily operations of the shelter, offering direct support to residents while ensuring safety, dignity, and respect for all.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the daily operations of the shelter, including shift scheduling, logistics and supplies
Supervise the shelter staff
Provide monthly reports to the BCW Manager
Report to the Community Wellness Manager
Participate in meetings, discussions, and provide recommendations to the Community Wellness Manager regarding the shelter
Organize training for the shelter staff
Other duties as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach
Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress or crisis situations
Understanding of trauma-informed care practices
Ability to work on a rotating schedule
Effective teamwork and collaboration skills
Education and Experience:
Grade 12 education preferred
Experience working with vulnerable populations, such as individuals facing homelessness, addiction, or mental health challenges is an asset
Experience working in shelters, residential programs, outreach, or crisis settings is an asset
Certifications in First Aid/CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), Harm Reduction Training, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), and Naloxone training is an asset
Salary is dependent on qualifications.
