About the Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, as an Electrical Engineer you’ll be responsible for taking ownership of the design, development and documentation of electrical control systems for custom automotive testing equipment used in high-performance production environments.
This role involves developing detailed electrical designs in AutoCAD Electrical, selecting and specifying components, and ensuring robust integration between electrical, mechanical, and software systems. You’ll play a key role in delivering complete, production-ready control system designs that meet customer requirements and applicable electrical and safety standards.
The ideal candidate brings strong experience in industrial automation, including control panel design, wiring practices, and electrical safety compliance. A solid understanding of vehicle electrical systems and CAN-based communication networks is highly desirable. Experience working on complex, multi-disciplinary automation systems is essential.
This is a technically demanding, hands-on engineering role suited to someone who takes full ownership of their work, thrives in complex system environments, and consistently delivers high-quality, production-ready designs. Success in this role requires strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines in a fast-paced project environment where precision and execution are critical.
What You’ll Do
· Design and develop electrical control systems for custom automation equipment, from concept through to commissioning
· Create detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical
· Select and integrate components (PLCs, sensors, relays, breakers) to meet functional and performance requirements
· Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless system integration
· Review project specifications and customer requirements to define clear and accurate electrical design scope
· Support builds and commissioning by troubleshooting electrical issues both on-site and remotely
· Ensure designs meet applicable electrical and safety standards (CSA, UL, NFPA 79, ISO 12100)
· Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement and standardization initiatives
· Prepare and present technical documentation for internal teams and customer design reviews
Project & Documentation Support
· Develop and maintain BOMs, source components, and coordinate with suppliers
· Track project progress and communicate updates across teams
· Ensure accurate documentation, final design validation, and alignment with the built system
What We’re Looking For
· Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related field
· 7+ years of experience in electrical design and industrial automation
· Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and familiarity with PLC-based control systems
· Strong understanding of electrical schematics, control circuits, motor control, sensor integration, instrumentation, and power distribution
· Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and CAN communication protocols (preferred)
· Familiarity with applicable safety requirements and standards (CSA, UL, NFPA 79, OSHA, ISO 12100)
· Excellent documentation, organizational, and communication skills
· Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, software and manufacturing
· A valid passport and ability to travel to the U.S. and Mexico for support
Nice to Have
· Certifications in industrial safety or automation (e.g., CSA, Siemens or Rockwell training)
· Experience in the automotive or testing equipment industry
· Certifications in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing
What You’ll Get
· Competitive Compensation Salary Range: $85,000 - $130,000 (based on experience)
· Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits
· Employee Assistance Program (mental health & wellness support)
· Paid time off (vacation + four (4) personal days)
· Professional development and training opportunities
· Opportunities for career growth in a rapidly evolving technical environment
· A collaborative engineering team that works closely across disciplines
· Company events and employee appreciation initiatives
Work Environment
· Special Equipment – Computers/laptops, printers, photocopier and other office equipment
