We are looking for an experienced Cost Accountant to join a growing team in Huron County, Ontario. This role is suited to a detail-oriented finance specialist who can strengthen cost reporting, support inventory and project analysis, and provide reliable insights for operational leaders. The successful candidate will play a key part in budgeting, forecasting, month-end activities, and financial reporting across multiple entities.
Responsibilities:
- Examine cost trends, inventory activity, and valuation results to identify risks, patterns, and opportunities for improved financial performance.
- Maintain and enhance standard costing processes, including regular reporting on product costs and operational variances.
- Review project financial results by comparing actual spending against budgets and support revenue recognition activities for construction-related work.
- Prepare recurring journal entries and contribute to an efficient month-end close process completed within established timelines.
- Produce meaningful financial analysis to help management understand cost movements, profitability, and operating performance.
- Support the development of stronger budgeting and forecasting practices, including flexible budget models and forward-looking financial plans.
- Build practical reporting tools and performance summaries for plant leadership to support informed operational decisions.
- Assist with accounting and reporting for multiple entities, including manual consolidation activities and departmental cost tracking.
- Contribute to compliance-related financial responsibilities and support process improvements where needed, including reporting updates tied to internal operational changes.
- At least 5 years of experience in cost accounting or a closely related accounting role.
- Strong background in variance analysis, budgeting, and financial reporting within a manufacturing or project-based environment.
- Experience with inventory valuation, cost tracking, and standard costing methodologies.
- Working knowledge of project accounting principles, including budget-to-actual analysis and revenue recognition concepts.
- Ability to manage accounting responsibilities across multiple entities with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in core accounting functions such as journal entries, month-end close, and financial analysis.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with plant leaders, project managers, and finance stakeholders.
