About the role:
Métis Community Services Society of BC (MCSSBC) is seeking a skilled and compassionate Indigenous Trauma Therapist to provide culturally safe, trauma-informed counselling services to Indigenous youth, adults, elders, and families throughout the Central Okanagan.
Working within the Aboriginal Family Trauma Therapy Program, the successful candidate will provide individual and group therapeutic services utilizing both Indigenous healing approaches and evidence-based clinical interventions.
The therapist will work collaboratively with the Family Wellness Manager, Mental Health & Substance Use Youth Worker, community partners, Elders, and other service providers to support healing from trauma, family violence, abuse, grief, loss, and intergenerational trauma.

Responsibilities:
- Provide individual counselling and therapeutic support to Indigenous youth, adults, elders, and families.
- Facilitate group counselling sessions and psychoeducational programming.
- Complete trauma-informed assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Provide culturally safe therapeutic services to Indigenous individuals and families who have experienced trauma, including childhood sexual abuse, family violence, intergenerational trauma, grief and loss, and related mental health challenges.
- Utilize evidence-based therapeutic modalities and interventions appropriate to client needs.
- Incorporate Indigenous cultural teachings, traditional healing approaches, and community connections where appropriate.
- Support clients in strengthening cultural identity, connection to community, and sense of belonging through culturally grounded therapeutic practices.
- Maintain accurate client records, case notes, treatment plans, and clinical documentation.
- Participate in case consultation and multidisciplinary team meetings to support coordinated client care.
- Collaborate with Interior Health, MCFD, schools, Indigenous organizations, community agencies, and other service providers to ensure coordinated client care.
- Collect and maintain client outcome data, service statistics, participant feedback, and other information required for program evaluation and funder reporting.
- Participate in community events, outreach activities, and relationship-building opportunities that support Indigenous wellness and community engagement.
- Adhere to all professional, ethical, and confidentiality standards required by the profession and the organization.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a related counselling discipline.
- Registration and good standing with a recognized professional regulatory body such as RCC, RSW, CCC, or equivalent.
- Experience providing therapeutic services to individuals, families, and groups.
- Experience working with trauma, abuse, family violence, grief and loss, mental health challenges, and intergenerational trauma.
- Strong clinical assessment, counselling, and treatment planning skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed practice and culturally safe service delivery.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and healing approaches, with preference given to applicants with knowledge of Métis culture and community.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while supporting clients with complex needs.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Note: MCSBC is exempt and may give preference to hiring Métis applicants under Section 16 of the Canadian Human Rights Act.
