Construct is an Employment Social Enterprises within Blue Door that fosters a labour market attachment for individuals facing barriers around employment in York, Durham, and Peel Region. Construct provides training, supportive employment opportunities, wrap- around supports, and assisting participants to gaining an apprenticeship and/or employment in the construction trades.
Blue Door is a not-for-profit registered charitable agency governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We have been an integral part of our community providing essential emergency shelter services since 1982. Blue Door’s mission is to support people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness to attain and retain affordable housing.
Job Summary
The Special Projects Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Employment and Expansion and supports the delivery, execution, and reporting of projects related to key funding deliverables and organizational growth initiatives. This role requires a highly organized and proactive individual who can effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining strong attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
The successful candidate will be solutions-focused, willing to address challenges head-on, and actively seek opportunities to support program participants and improve program outcomes. The Special Projects Coordinator will be a collaborative team player who participates fully in team meetings, contributes innovative ideas to enhance programs and services, and demonstrates flexibility in undertaking a variety of responsibilities in alignment with the organization's values, goals, and mission.
Responsibilities
Project Management & Funding Deliverables

Lead special projects and initiatives tied to organizational priorities and funding deliverables.

Develop, monitor, and execute project plans, ensuring timelines, outcomes, and reporting requirements are achieved.

Prepare and present funding, performance, and project outcome reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Research & Curriculum Development

Lead research and development efforts for new curriculum and program opportunities across the GTA, specifically in the skilled trades and automotive mechanical sector.

Identify emerging industry trends, partnership opportunities, and initiatives that support program expansion and participant success.

Recommend and implement enhancements to programs, resources, and service delivery models.
Build Days & Events

Coordinate and support the successful delivery of Construct's Build Days and other special initiatives.

Serve as the primary onsite liaison for corporate volunteers, partners, and stakeholders.

Ensure effective event planning, execution, and post-event evaluation.
Team Collaboration & Organizational Support

Contribute to team planning, innovation, and continuous improvement discussions.

Support organizational priorities by adapting to emerging needs and taking initiative on special assignments.

Meets with manager on a regular basis and participates in completion of annual performance evaluation.

Qualifications

Minimum Bachelors education in Social Work, Community Services, Employment Services, Fund Development, Project Management, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

Minimum 2–3 years of experience in project management, training delivery, or program/curriculum development.

Knowledge of community resources available in York, Durham and Peel Region and surrounding areas.

Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships with employers, funders, and community organizations.

Skilled in providing leadership and direction to individuals and teams.

Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Experience working with CRM or case management software; strong proficiency in MS Office and data tracking tools.

Strong ability to problem solves in conflict and/or crisis situations.

Knowledge, understanding and promotion of anti-oppressive practices.

Flexibility to travel across York, Peel, and Durham regions as needed.

CPR and First Aid Certified.

Crisis prevention training would be an asset.

Clear Vulnerable Sector Screening police check required.

Valid Driver’s license, reliable vehicle and insurance to travel for work.

Must be able and willing to work with a flexible schedule.
