About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Drafting Technologist to support the design and manufacturing of custom sheet metal electrical enclosures. The successful candidate will prepare fabrication drawings, 3D models, and production documentation for the manufacture of electrical cabinets.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and revise detailed fabrication drawings for sheet metal electrical enclosures
- Develop 3D models and flat patterns using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- Prepare manufacturing documentation including BOMs, cut lists, and assembly drawings
- Coordinate with production and fabrication teams to ensure manufacturability
- Apply knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes including bend allowances, punching, welding, and finishing
- Ensure drawings comply with CSA, UL, and customer specifications
- Maintain drawing revisions and engineering records
Qualifications
- Diploma in Drafting Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field
- 3 years of experience in sheet metal drafting or enclosure design preferred
- Proficiency in SolidWorks Sheet Metal and AutoCAD
- Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing processes
- Strong understanding of imperial measurement, fractions and decimals
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
- Knowledge of enclosure standards and tolerancing practices
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
Preferred Skills
- Experience designing electrical control panels or industrial enclosures
- Familiarity with CNC punching, laser cutting, and brake press operations
- Knowledge of CSA/UL enclosure requirements and IP/NEMA ratings
- ERP/MRP system experience considered an asset
- Strong communication and teamwork skills Top of Form
