Diversity Food Services is seeking dynamic, motivated, and highly skilled Chef de Cuisine to join our award-winning culinary team. The Chef de Cuisine will be responsible for the daily operation of one of our kitchens. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation of high quality food in a timely, efficient, sanitary, and consistent manner; must be prepared to work in a fast paced, high pressure work environment, while maintaining an organized environment that allows for duties to be performed in a quick and efficient manner. The Chef de Cuisine will be responsible for the daily management of a team of 8-18 employees and works closely with the culinary Director and the General manager to ensure operational success. The successful candidate will be experienced working and supervising in other kitchens. In addition to the day-to-day management the Chef de Cuisine is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory counts, ordering ingredients and supplies, along with hiring training and developing the cooks they manage.
Job Summary:
The Chef de Cuisine will be overseeing daily kitchen operations within a high-volume campus food service setting while also supporting catering functions at the University of Winnipeg. This position ensures the quality, consistency, and efficiency of meal preparation, enforcers food safety standards, and provides leadership to kitchen staff. The Chef De Cuisine works closely with the Culinary Director and General Manager to oversee daily operational needs, develop menus, and coordinate kitchen needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing all aspects of food production on the U of W campus restaurant Elements; including preparation, cooking, and presentation for both campus dining and some catering services.
- Assist in hiring kitchen staff, providing direction, training, and support to ensure high-quality food preparation and service.
- Enforce and maintain compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Assist the culinary director in menu planning, seasonal menu, and dietary accommodations. Train and follow up with staff through monthly menu changes, specials and features. Provide compassionate and accountable leadership to kitchen staff.
- Monitor food inventory, conduct ordering, and control waste through proper storage and portion control.
- Ensure efficient kitchen operations by coordinating workflows, managing prep schedules, and optimizing staff assignments.
- Ensure schedules are reflecting workflow and needs for campus and catering alongside General Manager. Use costed schedule to ensure labour goals are being met.
- Oversee daily logistics, ensuring proper execution of service from setup to breakdown.
- Maintain a positive and collaborative kitchen environment, fostering teamwork and professional growth.
Job Type: Full-time - in person on location
Salary: $48,000 per year plus gratuities

Schedule:
- Elements operates 7 days a week form September to May; 11 am – 9 pm. This role requires full time availability.
Ability to commute/relocate:
Winnipeg, MB R3B 2E9: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Experience:
- Cooking: 3 years minimum (required)
- Leadership: 3 years minimum (required)
Key Qualifications:
- Experience working in a kitchen management role
- Hold valid Food Handler’s & Smart Choices certificates
- Experience in menu creation, food costing and has global perspective in recipes.
- Written and verbal communication skills along with financial literacy and some computer skills.
- Professional demeanor and appearance with a personal commitment to continuously grow and learn.
