Magna Mining’s key objective is to become the next nickel and copper producing company in Canada by executing a growth strategy that is focused exclusively on the historic nickel producing district of Sudbury, ON.
We intend to achieve this objective via the creation of a Sudbury focused, hub and spoke production model, with our existing Shakespeare project as the hub. Our Geology teams support our operations and continued growth across areas such as mine and production geology, exploration, grade control, geological interpretation, resource definition, drilling, geological modelling, and mine planning. Our Production Geology teams include opportunities from Geologist-in-Training (GIT) and Mine Geologist through to Senior Mine Geologist positions.

Responsibilities:
Geologist-in-Training (GIT)

Support geological activities, including grade control, geological mapping, core logging, sampling, orebody interpretation, and other field activities.

Assist with the collection, interpretation, and management of geological data and maintaining geological models and other technical geological information.

Support drill core logging, sampling, QA/QC activities, reconciliation, and the preparation of geological reports and documentation.

Provide geological information to support mine planning and operational activities.

Work collaboratively with geology, engineering, operations, and other technical teams.

Participate in continuous improvement and health and safety initiatives.
Geologist, Production
-
Perform grade control, geological mapping, core logging, underground sampling, orebody interpretation, resource definition, and reconciliation activities.

Develop and maintain accurate geological, ore control, and 3D geological models to support mine planning and operational requirements and reflect the latest understanding of mineralization.

Support drilling programs, including drill design, core logging, sampling, and QA/QC activities.

Provide geological guidance to operations to support ore recovery and minimize dilution and collaborate with engineering, operations, metallurgy, exploration, and other technical teams to support effective resource extraction.

Prepare geological reports, documentation, and technical information and identify and support improvements to geological processes, practices, and technologies.

Ensure geological activities are completed in accordance with applicable health, safety, environmental, regulatory, and company requirements.
Senior Geologist, Production

Lead geological activities, including grade control, geological mapping, orebody interpretation, reconciliation, resource definition, and drilling programs.

Develop and implement geological practices and procedures as they relate to production geology activities in an underground environment to support safe, efficient, and reliable mining operations.

Provide technical expertise and guidance in geological interpretation, modelling, sampling, and QA/QC and ensure geological models are current, accurate, and support effective mine planning and operational decision-making.

Lead reconciliation activities, provide technical insight into geological and operational performance, and identify and implement improvements to geological processes, practices, and technologies.

Work collaboratively with engineering, operations, metallurgy, exploration, and other technical teams to optimize resource extraction and provide technical guidance, supervision, and mentorship to geology and technical team members.

Prepare and communicate geological reports, results, and technical recommendations and ensure geological activities comply with applicable health, safety, environmental, regulatory, and company requirements.
Chief Mine Geologist

Lead mine geology activities and oversee grade control, geological mapping, orebody interpretation, resource definition, and reconciliation to support safe, efficient, and reliable mining operations.

Develop, maintain and adhere to budgetary requirements.

Implement, lead and maintain up-to-date industry standard practices to ensure efficiency of production geology tasks and workflows and ensure integration of geologic workflows and process in the mine planning process.

Audit and mentor staff and processes to ensure accurate geological and ore control models are maintained to support the operation and provide technical direction and geological guidance to optimize ore recovery and minimize dilution.

Collaborate with engineering, operations, metallurgy, and exploration teams to support operational objectives and lead, mentor, and develop production geology and technical services team members.

Ensure geological activities comply with applicable health, safety, environmental, regulatory, and company requirements.
Qualifications: Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents

Post-secondary education in Geology, Geological Sciences, Geological Engineering, or a related field.

Registration or eligibility for registration with Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO), as applicable to the position.
Work Experience: Nature & Length
Geologist-in-Training (GIT)
1+ year of geology experience, preferably within underground mining operations.

Geologist, Production
3+ years of geology experience, with a focus on underground mining operations.

Senior Geologist, Production
7+ years of geology experience, with a focus on underground mining operations.

Chief Mine Geologist
8+ years of experience in underground mine geology, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
