Reporting to the Arena & Parks Supervisor, this position is primarily responsible for providing the general care and maintenance of parks, outdoor recreational facilities, and open natural spaces. This position will maintain arena ice to industry standards, perform labour and janitorial duties, and operate equipment and machines to ensure facilities and recreation areas are safe, clean, and operational.

Challenges of the Role
This position involves significant outdoor work with moderate to heavy physical effort including lifting, walking, pushing, pulling, and operating equipment. Exposure to varying weather conditions is expected.
Must possess the agility, strength, and physical stamina to perform arduous and prolonged work under adverse and strenuous conditions. Frequent standing. Varying levels of physical effort, including moderate to heavy lifting, walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, carrying. Operation and use of required tools and equipment skillfully and safely.
Conditions of Employment
- Successful background screening including Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Welfare Check
- Valid Driver’s Licence and acceptable abstract
- Compliance with Town of Hinton Occupational Health & Safety policies
Responsibilities
- Provide general care and maintenance of parks and recreational facilities
- Maintain sports fields, playgrounds, trails, and open spaces
- Operate parks and arena equipment in accordance with safety regulations
- Maintain arena ice to industry standards
- Perform janitorial and general labour duties
- Assist with cemetery operations including landscaping and internments
- Remove snow, sand, and salt from parking lots, sidewalks, and trails
- Maintain equipment in clean and safe working order
Experience and Education
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with satisfactory abstract
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Welfare Check
Preferred
- Experience in parks, arena care, or maintenance
- Experience operating loaders, skid-steers, mowers, chainsaws, weed whips, or ice resurfacing equipment
- Mechanical ability including carpentry and minor repairs
- Knowledge of horticulture practices and plant care
