Sonic Milling Systems has a patented technology that allows it to make outstanding Oat Based beverages. We are seeking a Process Operator to join our Saskatoon team.
Reporting to the Production Supervisor, this position will be expected to be part of the Operations Team, running the milling and related equipment that makes our products. This position is accountable to quickly trouble shoot, diagnose and repair problems as they occur on any plant production equipment or any of the facilities and grounds equipment. This position is responsible for compliance with government regulations and to adhere to and utilize Company policies and procedures and HACCP regulations for food safety including completion of all documentation and procedures in this area. Experience in a manufacturing plant within the Beverage or related industry, is essential. You must be able to work with minimal supervision, and as part of a multi-disciplined team. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
This is a full-time position currently based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. This position may require relocation to the Edmonton, Alberta area in 2027 as part of our expansion plans.
Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Starting, stopping, and regulating equipment like mixers (millers), pumps, centrifuge, valving, packaging equipment.
- System Monitoring & Control: Observe gauges, computer screens, and automated systems to maintain operational efficiency and safety.
- Adjusting & Troubleshooting: Make mechanical or digital tweaks to equipment, valves, and flow rates; identify and resolve errors to minimize production downtime (Withing established ranges).
- Quality Assurance: Checking products for defects and measuring variables such as weight, temperature, and texture. Strong focus on legible and accurate documentation.
- Sanitation: Cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining machinery to prevent contamination and ensure food safety compliance. Working with various chemicals as part of sanitation processes.
- Documentation: Logging production data, run times, and any equipment malfunctions.
- Maintenance: Perform routine preventative maintenance and collaborate with technicians to repair or to isolate faulty machinery.
- Physical & Environmental: Ability to stand for long periods, perform manual labor, and work rotating shifts (including nights and weekends) in a safety-sensitive environment.
Requirements and skills
- Previous experience as a process operator, maintenance worker or similar role
- Good understanding of how production equipment works
- Ability to detect potential problems with machinery
- Knowledge of food safety and safe food handling procedures
- Knowledge of basic safety rules and precautionary measures (safety gear will be provided)
- Ability to lift heavy (13.5kg/30lb) loads and transfer them manually
- Standing, walking, reaching, bending, twisting, pushing and pulling
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Education:
- Secondary school diploma (high school) required
- College or University diploma/degree in process control systems or related field beneficial but not mandatory
- Provincial Trade License beneficial but not essential
- Total Productive Maintenance Experience an Asset
Experience:
- Strong mechanical aptitude, basic mathematical and batch calculation skills, and a proven ability to interpret technical manuals.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience operating process equipment and systems in beverage industry or similar process Ex: (dairy, brewery, juice, soda)
Schedule:
Production schedules vary and are typically 4 - 10 hour shifts with a 30 minute lunch break however may change based on production requirements and increased throughput requirements. Overtime and schedule flexibility will be required based upon the needs of the business.
