Library Services Supervisor
Toronto Botanical Garden (TBG) is hiring a Library Services Supervisor to maintain the collections of the Weston Family Library. TBG is a not-for-profit charity focused on connecting people with plants and inspiring people to live in harmony with nature. Reporting to the Director of Education, the Library Services Supervisor will lead the dedicated team of volunteers who keep the library running day to day, ensuring it remains a vital resource for the garden's staff, members, and visitors.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and enjoys both hands-on collections work and mentoring volunteers. Candidates should be comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities, and building strong working relationships with a volunteer team.
Job Scope
- Manage and maintain the library's collection.
- Guide accessions and deaccessions of books and periodicals.
- Maintain the library's catalogue and circulation system (Koha ILS), including day-to-day troubleshooting.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers in circulation, collections management, cataloguing, reference and archives maintenance, with support from the Volunteer Services Coordinator.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and day-to-day coordinator for the library's volunteer team.
- Schedule and oversee volunteer shifts to ensure consistent library coverage.
- Recruit, train, and supervise student interns as needed.
- Track library statistics and provide information for monthly management reports.
- Monitors expenses to ensure alignment with the annual library budget.
- Support in the development of programming and engagement opportunities in the library.

- The collection is well-organized, accurately catalogued, and responsive to the needs of TBG's community.
- Volunteers feel supported, well-trained, and confident in their roles.
- The library operates smoothly week to week with minimal disruption.
- Increased visitor engagement in the library.
Experience/Skills
- Hands-on experience in a library, experience in a specialized library an asset.
- Experience recruiting, training, or supervising volunteers or staff.
- Familiarity with library automation/ILS systems (e.g., Koha) is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Basic proficiency with the Microsoft suite.
- Degree in Library and Information Science or related field an asset, equivalent experience or a diploma in Library and Information Technology also considered.
- Gardening or scientific botanical knowledge an asset.

Job Type: Part-Time (15 hours per week)
