Heavy Labour – Casual, Project Based Employment
Irwin’s Safety is hiring Casual Heavy Labour workers for a very busy upcoming shutdown season. This role is ideal for individuals seeking flexible work, supplemental income, or entry into the safety industry.
Irwin’s Safety offers entry Level, casual employment that allows you to gain valuable experience in the Safety Industry. With opportunities throughout Western Canada, we provide paid training and multiple opportunities to advance your career in safety. Travel and accommodation are provided on applicable projects.
Location of work sites vary from project to project.
No Experience is required for individuals with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. Please only apply if the requirements below match.
Job Requirements
Must be capable of:
- Physically demanding work and capable of heavy labour
- Standing for long periods
- Lifting up to 50 lbs on a continuous basis
- Shoveling coal, wash-downs, scraping/cleaning grease
- Working in dirty industrial environments
- Be able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
- Travelling out of town for work (length of time away will vary)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be able to pass drug and alcohol testing (including THC)
- Must be willing to be clean shaven (respiratory protection testing is required)
- Reading, writing, and speaking English fluently
- Must have basic computer skills and knowledge
- Must have a personal cellphone
- Required to provide own ankle-covering steel-toed boots (other PPE provided)
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or higher) is preferred
- Minimum 3 years Canadian driving experience is preferred
- Clean Canadian driving abstract is preferred
- Experience using labour tools is an asset
Responsibilities
- Perform heavy labour duties as assigned
- Monitor hot work activities and operate fire extinguishers (training provided)
- Monitor and record confined space activities (training provided)
- Monitor atmospheric air quality using gas detection equipment (training provided)
- Participate in pre-job and daily tailgate meetings
- Identify and communicate worksite hazards to supervisors
- Operate radios for communication
- Complete all required logs and paperwork in a timely manner
Job Type: Casual
Pay: From $22.50 per hour
Expected hours: 8 – 40 per week
Work Location: In person
