Under the supervision of the HR and H&S Manager, the Talent Acquisition Specialist plays a key role in supporting the company’s workforce growth by leading full-cycle recruitment and onboarding activities.
This role is primarily focused on attracting, sourcing, and hiring qualified candidates (approximately 80% of workload), as well as ensuring a structured and engaging onboarding experience for new employees working across our mining and crushing operations in Northeastern Ontario.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Talent Acquisition & Recruitment
- Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract skilled trades and operational talent in the mining and crushing industry.
- Draft and post job advertisements across multiple platforms (Indeed, LinkedIn, industry boards, local networks).
- Source candidates through proactive outreach, resume databases, and networking initiatives in Northern Ontario.
- Screen resumes and conduct initial phone interviews with candidates.
- Coordinate and participate in interviews.
- Conduct reference checks and support candidate evaluation and selection.
- Prepare and extend job offers, employment contracts, and hiring documentation.
- Maintain an active pipeline of candidates for recurring and hard-to-fill roles (remote sites, rotational schedules).
- Track recruitment metrics and continuously improve hiring processes.
- Participate in job fairs and community hiring events in Northern Ontario.
2. Onboarding & Employee Integration
- Coordinate and execute onboarding processes for new hires across multiple sites.
- Ensure completion of all required employment documentation and compliance requirements.
- Support site integration by coordinating travel, accommodations, and rotation schedules where applicable.
- Deliver or coordinate onboarding sessions and ensure alignment with company policies and safety standards.
- Follow up with new hires to support retention and engagement during the first months of employment.
3. Collaboration & HR Support
- Work closely with operations teams to understand workforce needs and site-specific requirements.
- Provide guidance to managers on hiring best practices and candidate selection.
- Ensure compliance with Ontario labor standards and company policies.
- Contribute to HR projects, policies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3 to 5 years of experience of recruitment or talent acquisition experience (industrial, mining, or construction is a strong asset).
- Diploma, certificate, or degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or related field.
- Experience recruiting in remote regions or for rotational schedules (asset).
