THE POSITION
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the organization's day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring the timely and accurate completion of month-end, year-end, payroll, tax compliance, inventory accounting, and transactional accounting activities. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Accountant supervises accounting staff and maintains the integrity of accounting records while supporting continuous process improvements.
This role serves as the operational leader of the accounting function and works closely with the Assistant Controller and CFO to support financial reporting and business objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting Operations
- Oversee daily accounting activities including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, banking, and general ledger maintenance.
- Oversee Accounts Receivable collections, customer account monitoring, and credit management processes.
- Review Accounts Receivable aging reports and implement collections actions to improve cash flow and reduce overdue balances.
- Review customer credit applications and establish appropriate credit limits and payment terms.
- Ensure timely resolution of customer billing discrepancies and collection issues.
- Monitor daily cash receipts and short-term cash forecasts to support working capital management.
- Ensure timely processing and reconciliation of banking transactions, credit cards, and payment gateways including Shopify, Amazon, PayPal, Stripe, Klarna, and other eCommerce platforms.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
Month End and Financial Reporting
- Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Review and approve journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules prepared by accounting staff.
- Review balance sheet reconciliations and general ledger accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Prepare financial schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for management reporting and external audits.
- Assist the Assistant Controller with monthly financial reporting packages, variance analysis, and management reporting.
- Ensure all month-end supporting schedules and working papers are completed and maintained in accordance with company policies.
Inventory, Costing & Operational Accounting
- Manage inventory accounting, reconciliations, and valuation processes.
- Perform freight, duty, and landed cost reconciliations.
- Maintain product costing and pricing information within the ERP system.
- Coordinate inventory cycle counts and support inventory control initiatives.
- Assist with inventory analysis and reporting.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Controller and CFO on special projects and financial analysis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 4–7 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting, payroll, sales taxes, inventory accounting, and accounts receivable management.
- Experience with ERP systems and eCommerce accounting environments.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
This is a remote position with occasional in-person meetings in Surrey; candidates should be able to attend these meetings as required.
