Director, People & Culture - Pacific Region
The Director, People & Culture is a key leadership role in the Pacific Region, responsible for delivering practical, business-aligned people solutions in a complex, unionized environment.
Reporting to the Senior Director, People & Culture, this role is intentionally hands-on. You’ll move fluidly between setting direction and jumping into the work—supporting your team through day-to-day employee and labour relations issues while also driving longer-term people strategies.
This is a role for someone who is equally comfortable at the leadership table and on the front line, working alongside Advisors, navigating real-time challenges, and ensuring consistent, high-quality support across the region.
What You’ll Do
Hands-On Leadership & Team Support

Lead, coach, and develop a team of Advisors and Coordinators, while actively supporting their day-to-day work

Step in on complex, high-risk, or sensitive employee and labour relations matters to guide outcomes and remove barriers

Provide practical, real-time direction to ensure consistency and quality across cases and processes

Balance team leadership with directly managing your own portfolio of work when needed
Labour Relations & Employee Relations

Lead grievance management, investigations, and escalations, providing both oversight and direct involvement where needed

Lead or support collective bargaining and arbitration preparation.

Interpret collective agreements and work closely with leaders to apply them in real-world situations

Build and maintain constructive relationships with union representatives through proactive, solutions-focused engagement
Strategic Partnership

Partner with operational leaders to address workforce challenges with practical, relevant solutions

Translate broader people strategies into actions that work on the ground

Provide clear, balanced advice that reflects both business needs and employee impact
Employee Experience & Culture

Address employee concerns in a way that is fair, timely, and grounded in respect

Identify trends from day-to-day issues and use them to inform proactive improvements

Support initiatives that strengthen engagement, accountability, and workplace culture
Governance & Continuous Improvement

Ensure compliance with federal legislation and collective agreements through both oversight and direct involvement

Identify opportunities to simplify or improve HR processes based on what’s happening in the field

Contribute to policy and program updates that reflect operational realities
What You Bring
-
8–10 years of progressive HR experience, including leadership experience in a hands-on labour relations environment

Strong, practical experience managing grievances, investigations, arbitrations, and union interactions, experience at the collective bargaining table an asset

Comfortable operating at all levels—from strategy discussions to frontline issue resolution

Ability to a team while also personally stepping into the work when required

Solid understanding of employment legislation (federal experience is an asset)

Sound judgment and a calm, solutions-focused approach in high-pressure situations

Strong relationship-building skills with both leaders and employees

Clear and confident communicator
Working Conditions

Based on-site at Vancouver International Airport (YVR)

Travel within the Pacific Region as required

Must be eligible to obtain Transport Security Clearance and applicable federal clearances
