About the Role
At Calgary Academy’s Castle Café, customer satisfaction is key. Operating in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, the Café Service & Classroom Assistant acts as a brand ambassador for our café menu and school community, delivering personalized, efficient, and welcoming service to every student, staff member, and guest. In addition to daily food service and POS operations, this role plays a key supporting part in assisting the Food and Culinary Arts teacher with daily classroom setup, maintenance, and learning environment readiness.
This is a Part-Time position that would work 25 hours per week Monday to Thursday from 10:30AM – 4:00PM and from 9:30AM – 3:00PM on Friday’s following the school calendar operational days. This position will receive a daily 30 minute unpaid break. This position would start August 24, 2026.
Salary Range
This position’s starting annual salary is $25,222 – $26,132 calculated based on working 25hrs/week and will be determined depending on a candidate’s experience and competencies. There is opportunity for yearly increases aligned with our commitment to valuing employee contributions and professional growth.
Highlights of Key Responsibilities
Point of Sale & Administrative Operations

Manage the daily operation of theLunchTimePOS system during lunch service.

Set up and break down POS equipment in the dining area during lunch service.

Perform basic administrative tasks related to lunch service as assigned.
Food Preparation & Service Setup
-
Portion, bag, and tray desserts, snacks, and beverages.

Keep the serving area organized, clean, and fully stocked (including cutlery, napkins, and snack/drink coolers).

Maintain sanitation standards by cleaning microwaves, filling sanitizer bottles, and following health and safety protocols.

Assist with general kitchen duties, cleaning and organization as needed.
Classroom Space Support

Assist the Culinary Arts and Food’s Teacher with classroom setup, activity preparation, and daily maintenance of the classroom space and resources.

Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized learning environment.

Perform general support duties as needed.
Skills/Knowledge Experience
-
High school diploma or equivalent (no formal post-secondary education required).
-
1–2 years of experience operating a Point-of-Sale (POS) system or administrative database.

1–2 years of experience delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment.

Basic proficiency with computers and web-based systems for printing reports, managing pre-orders, and processing billings.

Knowledge of basic food safety practices, kitchen sanitation, and safe food-handling procedures.

Strong verbal communication skills to interact professionally with students, faculty, and school staff.

Comfortable and engaging in a student-facing environment with kids from grades K–12.

Independent, quick learner with effective, real-time problem-solving abilities.

Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills during busy lunch periods

Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Checks, must be provided within thirty (30) days of signing the employment contract, with suitability determined at the discretion of the Employer as outlined in the Terms of Employment.
