The Role
The Senior Payroll Advisor is accountable for the accurate and timely delivery of payroll, including legislated deductions, payroll related payments, payroll accounting, reconciliations, and analytical reporting to support financial and business requirements.
- Execute end to end semi monthly payroll processing for approximately 750 multi provincial Canadian employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance while working collaboratively within the payroll team

Conduct regular payroll system audits, including master data reviews and workflow approvals, to ensure data integrity and compliance with internal controls

Monitor and manage the shared payroll mailbox, providing timely responses to inquiries and resolving payroll issues in accordance with service standards

Perform full cycle benefits administration, including RRSP-DPSP/TFSA programs and benefits enrollment, partnering with third party vendors

Manage benefits billing, reconciliation, and variance analysis, resolving discrepancies and ensuring financial accuracy and executive decision making

Ensure accurate calculation and processing of all payroll deductions, including statutory deductions, garnishments, family support, benefits, and retirement programs

Prepare and issue Records of Employment, and T2200 forms, while serving as a subject matter expert to resolve complex payroll inquiries and discrepancies

Partner with employees on maternity and parental leave to review benefit continuance schedules, clarify payment obligations, and respond to benefit related inquiries

Prepare and deliver accurate monthly payroll headcount reports to support financial and management reporting

Support year end payroll activities, including reconciliations, T4 preparation and distribution, and collaboration within payroll team to troubleshoot system issues

Prepare payroll journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, government remittances, and quarterly and annual filings

Perform internal payroll and timesheet audits to ensure ongoing accuracy, compliance, and adherence to legislative and organizational requirements

Identify, recommend, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance payroll efficiency, controls, and employee experience

Provide trusted guidance and advisory support to employees and managers on payroll, benefits, and leave management matters
What You Bring To The Team

Minimum of 5 years of experience processing payroll in a mid-sized organization

Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation
-
Advanced knowledge of payroll software. Experience with UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) payroll and workforce management systems is an asset

Demonstrated experience and understanding of RRSP-DPSP/TFSA and Health/Dental benefit program administration

Advanced Microsoft Office skills

Payroll Accounting experience an asset

Strong detail orientation with strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Confident with the ability to communicate effectively and build credibility with stakeholders at all levels
