The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. Position summary
Department / Research Program: Supported by the Scientific Director grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research for Dr. Ariane Marelli, Dr. Marelli’s research lab has been conducting research in congenital heart disease. The lab has launched several provincial, pan-Canadian, and international studies to investigate the epidemiology, etiology, interventions and health services of congenital heart disease across the lifespan. The lab has rich data sources including a pan-Canadian administrative database with approximately 500,00 patients with up to 35 years of follow-up, the McGill University Health Centre Data Warehouse, and clinical data from the McGill Adult Unit of Congenital Heart Excellence. The Marelli_Lab is seeking a research associate to working on the projects.
The Research Associate will participate in the execution of the research projects conducted at Dr. Marelli’s research lab, as well as associated administrative tasks and scientific writing.
General Duties
- Actively participates in the execution of research projects at Marelli_Lab,
- Is responsible for various administrative tasks (including budgets, management of meetings, minute-taking, and grant/protocol writing),
- Supports and supervise members of the lab with their research projects,
- Provides training to new recruits, students and staff,
- Establishes research methods, designs protocol, advances research and breaks new grounds,
- Troubleshoots research issues and resolves problems in design,
- Reviews and evaluates research findings and determines results, prepares reports and manuscripts,
- Participate in local, national and international collaborations,
- Participates in group meetings and in the general day-to-day management of Dr. Marelli’s research projects,
- Accomplishes any other related tasks as required by the immediate supervisor.

Education: Doctorate Degree
Field of Study: Epidemiology/Public health
Work Experience: None
Required Skills
- Knowledge of French is required.
- An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires complex writing or in-depth analysis of documents in English related to a research project.
- Ph.D degree in epidemiology/public health,
- Experience in health-related research & large datasets,
- Good programming and analysis skill,
- Familiar with SAS or Python or R,
- Experience in congenital heart disease research is an asset,
- Evidence of excellent communication skills (oral and written),
- Strong organizational skills, detail oriented and able to work as part of team or independently as needed,
- Ability to manage time with a positive and flexible attitude,
- Solid experience in scientific writing (peer-review publications),
- Team player, excellent organizational skills, rigor,
- Problem-solving skills.
Additional information
Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: Mondays to Fridays
