The facility supports world-class astroparticle physics research and has attracted innovative life science and quantum technology programs. About the Role
The Industrial Technologist is a certified tradesperson responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and effective operation of industrial systems within SNOLAB’s unique research environment. This role contributes to the design, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of systems in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, and SNOLAB standards.
- Reads blueprints, diagrams, manuals, and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
- Installs, designs, dismantles, and moves control and measurement instruments on new and existing industrial systems according to layout plans.
- Operates hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes and jacks to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery.
- Inspects and examines machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions.
- Operations machine tools such as lathes, drill presses, band saws, and grinders to fabricate parts require during overhaul, maintenance, or set-up of machinery.
- Cleans, lubricates, and performs routine maintenance work on equipment.
- Assists experimental program through the construction, installation, and commissioning of experimental components, process systems, and support structures.
- Assembles machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand and power tools and welding equipment.
- Produces test reports and documents services performed.
- Identifies and locates suppliers for the procurement of needed materials, tools, and equipment.
- Erects and installs scaffolding, hoisting equipment, and rigging as per recognized standard practices.
- Adheres to stated policies and procedures relating to health and safety, quality management, and quality assurance.

Education and Experience:
· Trade certification in Ontario in a relevant discipline is preferred.
· Registered apprentices in good standing with the Ontario College of Trades will also be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge of safe working techniques and practices.
· Knowledge of and ability to use machine tools such as lathes, drill presses, band saws, and grinders.
· Ability to read and understand blueprints, diagrams, manuals, and schematic drawings.
· Ability to troubleshoot/inspect equipment for defects and malfunctions and provide solutions.
· Ability to operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes and jacks.
· Ability to work independently.
· Effective oral and written communication skills.
· Ability to understand and follow written instructions.
Salary Range: $72,801 - $86,350 per annum
