What is the Opportunity?
This role is a key contributor to the Lending Services leadership team and will play a critical role in achieving our Vision to be recognized as the centre of excellence in delivering lending products to RBC’s Top Tier clients globally and proactively enabling global growth by leveraging deep expertise coupled with a transformational mindset. In this role you will execute on our Mission to deliver seamless and scalable solutions that mitigate risk and continually elevate the customer experience through continuous innovation, disciplined governance and collaboration to build out a corporate asset scalable for growth.
As Director, Verification & Financial Control for Lending Services, you will lead operational excellence across all verification, cash management, and reconciliation activities serving multiple lines of business globally. Leading a centralized team of 30-40, you will execute on established operational standards and governance frameworks that ensure the integrity of every financial transaction through rigorous checker functions, cash controls, and GL reconciliations. You will build and maintain an “error-free” culture that controls failures and unreconciled positions. Operating with unwavering discipline and rigor, you will drive consistent execution, hold teams accountable, and continuously improve operational processes. This role demands strong operational leadership, uncompromising integrity, and the ability to scale reliable, efficient processes across a complex global environment.
What Will You Do?

Execute on operational standards and governance frameworks for verification, cash management, and reconciliation.

Ensure consistent application of controls across all teams and geographies and hold teams accountable for adherence and execution quality.

Oversee checker functions as the last line of defense; hold teams accountable for 100% two-touch verification on eligible transactions.

Approve direct payments exceeding $1 billion with uncompromising rigor and judgment.

Oversee daily cash reconciliation across all banking relationships; hold teams accountable for complete and timely cash account and GL account reconciliation; establish performance standards for break investigation and resolution; escalate aged breaks exceeding 30-90 days.

Build, mentor, and lead high-performing teams of 30-40+ employees across verification and reconciliation; establish clear accountability for execution quality and operational discipline; provide coaching and feedback on performance and skill development.

Serve as the single point of accountability for operational performance; monitor execution metrics and control effectiveness; use data to drive accountability and identify operational improvement opportunities.

Support all audits on behalf of Lending Services (Internal, External, SOX, PWC, FRB); direct teams to maintain evidence for regulatory examinations; partner with Operational Excellence team as key liaison with auditors and regulators.

Analyze control gaps and operational failures; develop corrective action plans to address root causes; communicate learnings and corrective actions across teams and leadership to prevent reoccurrence.

Partner with Product Owner to optimize verification and reconciliation processes; identify efficiency opportunities and implement improvements that enhance accuracy, reduce manual work, and improve operational scalability.
What Do You Need to Succeed?
Must Have’s

10 years plus of progressive leadership experience in lending operations, financial control, or risk management environments.

Proven success building and leading high-performing operational teams of 30+ people across complex, global organizations.

Strong operational discipline combined with strategic thinking.

Proven ability to establish clear standards, ensure consistent execution, anticipate operational risks, and design scalable processes. You balance compliance rigor with operational efficiency.

Deep knowledge of lending products, payment systems, reconciliation processes, cash management, and GL accounting; expertise in audit frameworks, regulatory examination processes (SOX, FRB), and control testing methodologies.

Exceptional leadership presence and communication skills. You influence peers and senior stakeholders, build alignment on operational priorities, articulate control and risk concepts clearly, and drive accountability across teams and geographies.

Uncompromising integrity and operational discipline. You maintain a zero-tolerance mindset on control failures; hold teams accountable with clarity and fairness; escalate issues promptly; and model the operational standards you expect from others.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities under pressure in a fast-paced, global environment.
Nice to Have’s

CPA, CIA, or similar professional certification in accounting, audit, or financial controls; advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.

Experience with process automation, continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma), or operational efficiency transformation.

Knowledge of multiple banking systems and reconciliation platforms.

Operations management or business operations experience in financial services; track record of improving operational efficiency, reducing operational risk, or scaling operational teams.

Experience building operational centers of excellence or best practice communities.

Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop future operational leaders within control and operations functions.
